Nightlife in Thailand..is it dead?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

So far we have seen Chiang Mai and Pai, and sadly it appears that come midnight that the city is dead!

Is there anywhere in the country where the night clubs and bars don't slam shut at midnight or 1am?

Koh Chang? Koh Samet? Koh Samui? how the night life there? same 1am and out?

Personally, I am not so much of party person myself but a friend is on a 6 week holiday and is not enjoying it at all, actually find it pretty boring at night with clubs closing so early.

Would we be better p*ssing off to Vietnam/Cambodia/Bali?

How is the nightlife there?

Your input appreciated.

Koh Chang the major places may stretch to 2am, maybe 1am during the week during low season though

Can always drink later in Koh Pha Ngan, especially at the beaches, near enough all night there

Was on Koh Lipe last summer, very quiet, a lot of bars closed on the walking street but one open until midnight only but still a bar on the beach open until about 3am or later pretty much every night

There's usually stuff going on, just need to look around

Really quiet in Pai though?

Those who wish to drink themselves into oblivion can do it on the "7" steps or in their room .

What is it that drives some to "clubs" etc where getting pie eyed is that much more expensive ? Maybe these people are the famous 2 week "millionaires"

Calm down, minister. Or is it "cheap charlie"? Either way, many normal, social beings like to go to places where like-minded individuals congregate to imbibe spirits, have conversation, and listen and dance to music. Your "contribution" to this thread does nothing to advance the conversation or answer the OP's question. I suggest you take your negative grumbling--or is it argumentative trouble-making?--elsewhere.

I don't drink alcohol but I still like to go out well past midnight and socialise.

For some of us a fun life doesn't consist of sitting on thaivisa correcting people over terminology like 'visa on arrival', 'retirement visa', etc. every single day.

I was out partying at a local thai disco until 5am the other night in Thalang Phuket. Phuket town has a couple spots open until 3am (thai disco) and Patong can also go into 4-5am as well. If you want late night party action its better to go to the party locations and not the laid back places. You want Bangkok, Pattaya, Patong, Koh Phangan (full/new moon) or Phi Phi Island... not sure about Koh Samui... havent been there yet in my 5 years in the country.

I was out on the lash last night in Pattaya...

It's low season right now for sure, but bars, go-gos, clubs etc are still open until the early hours no problem at all.

It's also the end of the month coming up during the next few days.... so all the girls 'manning' giggle.gif the bars, have no money to pay for room rents or send to feckless relatives up-country. It's so sad.

Thus your friend can be assured of a rock star 'handsome man' welcome, and can party his tail off, if this is what he wants.

I could organise a tour if he don't know tinsel town to well whistling.gif

If you want nightlife, surely Bangkok and Pattaya are obvious places

NAna plaza is on a study decline! Girls not making money like they used to. New girls few and far between.

I can see the Plaza going bankrupt or whatever is the thai version.

The way i see it is these girls manning the bars are broke all the time not just at the end of the month.

I NEVER see the BARS @ the beginning of Wlalking St teeming with customers.

I think less and less people are partying compare to 10 years ago, this is speaking of nightlife in Bangkok. Perhaps its because there are so many bars and drinking holes that clubs are rarely packed. And the fact that there are no new clubs around town for sometime already. But ever since the red shirt protests, I've noticed people prefer to hit the bars for a couple of drinks and call it a night. Or that many younger folks seems to be drinking at friends apartments nowadays.

I think you mean -

Since the suppression of the democracy protestors and the coup, the temporary curfew , the clearing of the vendors off the street, police stop and search, urine testing - yeah less people go out but it's since the yellow shirt coup not the red shirt protests. Big difference.

I think you probably just have to ask around about where to go - - I have never been but heard that Spicy in CM does not get started until very late at night... surely there must be other places too...

And if nothing else, surely Pattaya - - all the stories of people being drunk and beaten up at 4 am come from Pattaya so something must be open, I guess...

What a beautifully constructed reply. Suggesting that nightlife in clubs at 3am is a civilised affair where like minded gentleman can partake in a brandy and good conversation, and perhaps dance with a pretty lady to some enjoyable music before a gentle kiss on the cheek and a polite goodnight. giggle.gif

In reality I find it a load of drunken idiots carefully choosing which hooker to take home through their beer googles, while shouting (over the music) into each others ears drunken crap like "she's got great tits". Later followed by a drunken swagger home (hooker in arm) hopefully avoiding being mugged and perhaps leaning over and emptying your stomach on the pavement that you spent so much money filling before you arrive back at your condo and get robbed by your carefully chosen hooker.

I think so, or perhaps we just need to get with it and get into the groove.

I believe that part of the problem is that the group of permanent foreign residents that have supported the bars in Pattaya for the last 15 or 20 years is getting old with many suffering from bad health as well. Dark side bars are mostly empty in the afternoons now with 2 or 3 customers considered a crowd. Tour buses do not impact night life out here and bars and cafes open and close with regularity. Some like Fabrice and Aqua Deymie have pools and poolside rooms and decent food and maybe as much as 30 or 40 million baht in their investment. Still hard to make a living these days. Not much improvement expected either.

I am amazrd at how busy Pattaya remains despite it is supposed to be the quiet season. Many evenings traffic is backed up on 2nd Road to Thapraya and sometimes up to Big Buddha on Pratumnak. The establishments whether on Soi LK metro or WS or elsewhere which are doing the right thing such as one particular GG bar on Soi 15 or another themed bar on LKM are always busy. There's no place like it. Patty remails packed with opportunity for fun round the clock. There's always something happening in Pattaya. Please! No snide comments from the anti Thai bridge and the Pattaya bashers whose racism and mediocrity bores me. Edited by The manic

Suppose it is, if you are interested in ladyboys and hookers or spending too much on crappy booze.

But, if you don't want that, what is there?
