Bit confused...read somewhere that for Thai to visit Vietnam visa exempt, they need 6 month validity on their pp. Anyone confirm this?

Thankyou

Yes I've read that too, actually I think it applies to pretty well all countries, so when a passport gets down to under 12 months left it would be wise to renew it.

From the info I read it was 6 month required for visa exempt and if obtaining a visa the requirement was one month past the end date of the visa.

Just looking to confirm the exempt requirement.

I've just been looking online for you. Can only see mention of one month past end date of visa.
"To enter Vietnam, a passport valid for at least one month after the visa expiration date..."
"At present, the Thai passport holders are exempted a visa to Vietnam for up to 30 days. To enter Vietnam, you just need a passport valid beyond your duration of stay in Vietnam."
However:
"Passport validity: Many countries require passport validity of no less than 6 months and one or two blank pages."
In my own case, for myself and my TGF, if either of our passports got down to 8,9,10 months left, or 2-3 blank pages, then I'd renew the passport there and then rather than leave to the final minute.

6 months is standard for most ASEAN countries and Indonesia Singapore are really strict with it

If the passport is almost due , better to renew it

The 6 month rule has always seemed odd to me. It's a bit like having a 5 year membership to a club and being refused entry to the club during the last 6 months unless you buy another 5 years membership.

I agree with you mate but this is how they goes :) I'm almost missed my flight to Indonesia on Cathay as I was 5 months 20 days to the passport being expired

Went back and forth with the station mgr and they almost said no but I told them I know the immigration chief in Bali and he will stamped me in ...so they called him and he gave the assurance I'm okay ...5 mins to the door closing in Hong Kong

These days I just renew it as its not worth the hassle plus I missed the lounge time at transit in HK !
