My wife and I thinking of visiting Nakhon Si Thammarat (direct in the city Nakhon Si Thammarat), where she was born.

Are there any dive centers somewhere close? Google didn't find anything. The area is nice, the beach near, so there might be some thai companies or?

Dive centers in NST or the beaches nearby? Not, that I recall one, and I know the area very well. Not so much infrastructure like diving, speedboats etc (Everything, farangs like to do.) And no farangs in NST at all. I was always the only one.

I was there for a few month in 2001 and I saw at least 3 or 4 farangs living there.

2 english theacher. 1 extremly fat and old one, 1 older "normal" looking one.

So there are some...... Not many but a few.....

I know there are Thais who like diving, but maybe mostly Bangkokians.

Might be the same as at my home in farangistan, when you ask people if the climb the mountain---just foreigner do that....

there is a popular dive site about 6 hours off the coast..... forgotten the name. All i remember was punishing waves for 3 days non stop with the boat swaying backwards and forward on 30 degree angles ( few hours ok, but 3 days wears on u ).

Water was clear, and if luck, get Manta's there

Uh? There are touching a hundred falangs living in NST!

Not really into diving myself and have never heard of diving in NST, certainly no dive shops although there is one shop that sells water sport related stuff, not much though. Nearest spots I'd say for decent diving would have to be Koh Samui/Ang Thong Marine Park (your 6 hour boat ride maybe?), Trang or Krabi. Even though this province has the most kilometres of beach in Thailand, non of them are really that nice with Kanom or Khoa Plai Dam being the best.

Well, I never met one of them, and I've been there a lot of times. I can recall meeting one farang outside NST, though.

What I remember: there was an english school with an UK theacher and evidence that there is a second one.

I saw a very big fat one sitting outside a small house and got a haircut and there was a slim old one.

And me....

All male, which of these are you?

But yes that are not many sights for beeing a few months there.

Not sure what you're on about, but here goes ..... there is touching a hundred falangs, if not more living in NST. Which part of that sentence do you not understand?

... and Skippy, where/what is Losin?

Well, I never met one. I haven't been there for over a year now. Maybe it changed.

Whilst it may not be Thailands leading tourist destination or the first choice of the expat community, Nakhon does have a fair number of farang. Probably 100-150 in Amphoe Muang. About half are teachers. Yes, the number has grown over the years but just over a year ago the numbers were much the same. You must have been looking in the wrong place or not very observant!

Koh Losin is a lovely dive site (small island) south east of NST but probably closer to Songkhla and still pretty far out.

Ive only heard of liveaboards on their way through to Malaysia from the gulf of Thailand and visa versa diving there.

Pretty hard to explain that one, cause I slept ont he boat :o . I think you go down to Narathiwat forgot which town we left from, but it goes out aloooooooonnnnggggg way. About 6 - 8 hours worth of chugging along.

Losin is underwater hill... max depth is about 35m I think, most shallow about 5. Very clear water, nice coral, but ....I was not keen on it.

The real bitch is that there are no islands, so your out in open water. When sleeping, the boat rocked terribly in the waves. # days worth gets to you.
