Darasamuth tunnel roof crack?

Featured Replies

I couldn't find any information about this but somebody sent this picture to me and it looks like that the (presumable) Darasamuth tunnel has some cracks in its roof.

According the picture it indeed looks like it.

Maybe a good idea to perform a detailed inspection when they close the tunnel for maintenance.

Definitely needs an inspection as a crack in solid concrete is not good.

No worries, just cover the crack so it's not visible and voila, it's fixed. That's the mentality of maintenance work I've seen done anyway. Quite scary actually on something like this.

off-course a thick non straight shadow against the light direction from a very thin wire. whistling.gif

Looks like a shadow to me in the picture.

If it's a shadow then they should be on both sides of the wire as you have lights on both sides and they would not be so dark due to the distance of the light source.

Possibly but highly unlikely and not really thrust worthy from a Thai official.

It does to look like an shadow when looking at the images.

The only light sources, which illuminates the ceiling is from the top of the right side of the tunnel wall. The lights on the left only illuminates the road. You can see this from the shadows of the cables on the right. These shadows are missing from the left side.

If the ceiling is not flat, the shadows do curve like shown in the images.

One thing I did not understood at first was why the shadow was so sharp as it's shown in the images.

The lights on top right, which are very close to each other, must have very narrow angle. That's actually quite clever as when the angle is narrow, the lights don't blind the drivers as the light comes almost from zenith. I'd say that part of the tunnel is good design.

Drove through before and for me it looks more like wetness. Some days ago there was no shadow. On way back had to stop in the right turn lane on the center of the underpass and what my tired eyes saw. A big wide deep crack in the tarmac. 2-3m long and partly 10-15cm wide. This might be one of the entering points for water causing the wetness inside the underpass.

So painting won't do the trick here sure and it will get more interesting how the big inspector will act.

Would also explain why they need to close it for "maintenance on the lighting" so soon. They are going to check this more closely me thinks.

the picture the face saver has posted is on one side the other side has a huge crack

the new one in construction is full of cracks that have been painted over.
