BANGKOK: -- Khon Kaen police have made quick arrests after an attack on a chef who works in a Chinese restaurant at a top local hotel.

The attack took place at the lodgings of the chef on Wednesday when a group of eight men who are debt collectors were caught on CCTV and seen by many witnesses.

They used knives in the attack that left the chef with serious wounds in hospital.

A ringleader of the gang employed to collect money on behalf of loan sharks said that the matter was over a woman reported Thairath. Pinit Chitnork, 24, of Chaiyaphum claimed that the chef was seeing an ex girlfriend of his so he and seven others went to attack him at his room.

Three other men were arrested yesterday on a warrant - Thanakorn Klinchan, 25 of Phitsanulok, Sornnarin Banthep, 24, of Chaiyaphum and Thanachot Baepmeuan, 33, of Khon Kaen. They were all charged with using knives to cause serious bodily harm.

Also arrested later at the debt collectors' lodgings were two Chainat men, Jatuporn Deethip, 30, and Wirat Khambutr, 27.

Police did not name the victim of the attack but said that he was a chef that worked in the Chinese restaurant of a five star hotel in downtown Khon Kaen.

One other man is sought for his involvement in the attack.

Good to see the powers that be eradicated the debt collectors, as promised.

Your EX girlfriend starts a new relationship, so you round up 7 mates, armed with knives, to injure the new acquaintance ??????

I wonder why she finished with him ?

Love usually finds a way :) Thainess at its best!

Seems they never grow up here and continue to act like immature children, government included!

I have actually come across numerous of these 'debt collectors' in Khon Kaen, when I employed staff, most of which borrowed off the money lenders. I am not a big bloke, but in all the years, I never saw one that actually looked like he could handle himself, on a one on one situation. However, it was the knowledge that they carry weapons, that I gave them a wide berth when seeing them.

don't get too excited. I am sure by the minute you read this, they are all already out on bail, as some "unknown powers" came to help and paid the 5.000 Baht bail per person

The Thai male animal mobs do this frequently. They never spend time in jail. They seem to think that to do it to a farang is not only legal but a moral obligation. LOW CLASS JUNGLE ANIMALS!

Here we go again..almost a copy-cat event of the earlier attack on the woman..(How many men were involved in the video-recorded beating of that poor woman?). And it will happen again & again, no convictions because it will never reach the courts..arrests mean nothing here nowadays.

Eight on one. Real men these Thai blokes.

But isn't it nice to know that only one or two of them have to be caught, and these tough brave men will rat out their buddies in a matter of seconds?

Given that the loan sharks are often financed by the police or people with excess income, the culprits probably felt that they were untouchable. Maybe they are but we will nevcer know the outcome.

Its how things get done in Thailand. Eat in groups. Travel in groups. Sleep in groups. Beat up people in groups. The only thing systematically lacking is CRITICAL THINKING in groups...

This type of attack is so common here...many times an ex-gf is the victim and is killed in a most vicious manner...

Seems the Thai male has a extraordinary way of expressing their disapproval of being rejected...

More mental health issues seem to crop up everyday...

if a 100 marines/seals invaded Thailand the army would probably run for the hills shouting that they are out numbered.

Don't you believe it, Capt. America.

hmmmm....yes...i think the Thai army would turn and run...not only are they poorly trained in general, but there is no honor in the character of Thai men who form the backbone of the infantry...i've seen three thai soldiers run away from a 15 kg dog before...so i think 100 SEALS or SAS would not be needed...just a few litters of lab puppies...or maybe an order for child support

I do not know if the chef was farang but if he was maybe this is the new way. No name and no photo. Therefore no attacks on farang. Thailand is so safe now for visitors because we will not tell anyone of attacks. What the eye does not see the heart does not grieve.
