Scammer

Featured Replies

How do you say scammer in Thai

kee kong.

Well, this means "cheating" more generally.

I don't know of a specific word for scammer, but in such situation I often hear ขโมย (kamoy = thief) or คนหลอก (khon lohk = "person who bullsh*ts")

Probably colloquial, I don't mix with hi-so people much tongue.png

Colloquial :

สิบแปดมงกุฎ

"Sip Paet Mongkut" literally "18 Crowns"

Use this and you will impress your Thai friends too!

Removed a troll post.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I am impressed. Thai2english.com even translates it properly.

I will certainly try reusing this with my Thai pals clap2.gif

There is a Facebook account with the name "thai anti scam (สาวไทยรู้ทันกลลวง)", using กลลวง for scam.

In the account description, other terms are used for scammer and scam, one with a question mark.

กลลวง (khon luang) is "fraud" as per thai2english, so probably a good translation.

The two first lines copied just contain transliterations of "scammer" and "scam"

"Scammer" keu arai? (what is a scammer?)

"Scam"

Third line must be something like "how to protect oneself from scammer's actions" (I guess, from a quick look)

สเเกม and สแกมเมอร์ are used in forums in thai language, ( normally, I don't read them,

but I was curious to see which word Thai people use )

and I think it's the word to use in a context of a fraud by Internet ;

for modern words connected to computer, Internet, medecine , new technologies,Thai language

uses the English word

definition : สแกมคืออะไร?การหลอกลวงทางอินเทอร์เน็ตอีกแบบหนึ่ง"

method to protect oneself from a scam is " วิธีการป้องกันตัวเองจากสแกม" , so to answer the OP,

just say the English word , scammer is สแกมเมอร์ , it's a modern word

I think most Thai are pretty aware of the word scam... but I would use Khon kee Khong

It doesn't have a direct Thai equivalent. The Thais that are familiar with this English word and wish to use it will indeed use the word scam/scammer. สแกม/สแกมเมอร์.

It is mostly used, as someone already said, as an adjective towards a person using the internet to fool somebody in some way. The most likely here in Thailand being the call center trash that ring up scamming money out of the vulnerable.

As for the rest, words like those already posted hit close enough to the mark i.e โกง ขี้โกง คนโกง etc etc

I always thought those guys in the streets trying to scam tourists could be called Khon tom tun คน ต้ม ตุ๋น

literally 'boil' and 'stew'.
