If I go to the embassy a day or two after my visa expires, are there any penalties other than the fine? Can I still get another visa?

Also, is Penang still an available option for visa runs?

Please help!!!

Which Embassy are you planning to attend ? Why would an Embassy impose a fine ?

Visas can be obtained by those who qualify from the Penang Thai Consulate.

Your visa expiring has no effect on your stay in the country or for getting another visa.

If you stay longer than the permit to stay a visa allowed when you entered the country you would be on an overstay and would be fined 500 baht a day for it. A day or two of overstay is not a problem and will not effect getting another visa.

The fine would be because I would be exiting the country a few days after my visa expires (500 baht/day). My question is whether or not that will affect my ability to get a new visa.

I plan on attending the embassy in Penang. I've already spent a year in Thailand.

An overstay fine (imposed by the Thai immigration service) will not affect any future visa applications.

The is no Thai Embassy in Penang if you wish to go to an Thai Embassy in Malaysia you will need to travel to Kuala Lumpur.

I think you will find however there is a consulate which is an embassy not in a capital city for the pedants.

Here you are !

"A consulate is a small official office of a country in another country. The main office is called an Embassy, and is in the capital city. Consulates are in other large towns and cities and do not do all of the jobs of the Embassy."

A "consulate" is NOT an Embassy ! smile.png

Small error of terms by OP. It is clear he wants to obtain new visa. The consulate in Penang is his best option. OP you state you have been here a year. How many visas have you already obtained from Penang. Vientiane in Laos is another option for you

Your overstay should have no affect on getting a new visa.
