The house in question is a two story house with 3 bathrooms and a swimming pool. We have a Hitachi GX automatic pump WM-P 300GX2 but we've had it for around 2 years. It is connected to a well we have beneath the house of around 10 or more meters. Previously it did that thing where it would turn on at random moments even if there was no water running anywhere in the house. As I know absolutely nothing about pumps we had a master come in, who told us that a pipe ruptured underneath which meant that we had to put additional pumping around the house which led to all the bathroom and the kitchen but not the swimming pool. It then worked normal for a little while before it stopped working all together. The pool water is continually dropping and we are having to fill it up, and because we thought that there was no water in the well due to the drought we installed a water tank. However it has now rained enough for there to be water down below, so when we turned it on the water work for a bit. We emptied the pool water to fix the lights, when we filled it back up with a water truck and turned of the system. The water pump to the house stopped working, which is weird because as far as I know they are not connected. About 30 min after, the water pump started working again fine and so is the pool.

We do not understand what exactly the problem with the pump is and I wish there was someone who could come to the house, see it themselves and tell us what the course of action should be because like I said, I know nothing about how this works.

Should we buy a new pump? If so should it be the cylindrical one or the square one? The water is now working but the water in the pool is dropping rapidly.

You were probably correct in the original diagnosis of a hidden plumbing leak. I assume that the external pipes sorted that.

You need to be more clear - just what do you mean by 'stopped working'? Was it something as daft as a power failure?

You shouldn't have needed to drain the pool to fix the lights, at least not if they were correctly installed. Continually losing pool water suggests a leak :(

After reading this from the OP

The water pump to the house stopped working, which is weird because as far as I know they are not connected. About 30 min after, the water pump started working again fine and so is the pool.

It sounds to me that the Pump stopped working because it may was overheating, maybe because of lack of water flow (or something else), and after the cool down (the 30 mins) it started again ?

Just guessing though.
