samsensam Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 about time. but... i dont understand why more locals dont currently use such cards preferring it seems to join massive queues day after day just to but tickets. i have one and zoom past queues... strange
zaphod reborn Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 about time. but... i dont understand why more locals dont currently use such cards preferring it seems to join massive queues day after day just to but tickets. i have one and zoom past queues... strange Because the Thais don't understand that there is supposed to be a small discount for prepaying your travel. Hence, it's actually more expensive to prepay than to purchase a single ticket at the station. They really need to study the Opal system in Australia which I found to be a truly integrated ticketing solution for mass transit, including busses, trains and ferries with discounts for longer trips.
Cuchulainn Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 It'll be a helllll of a long time before you can use these on the buses!!
KhunBENQ Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 It'll be a helllll of a long time before you can use these on the buses!! From the report: in the future There is not a single word about the expected prices for this spider card?

Why cant people understand Thai's.
ezzra Posted June 10, 2016 Posted June 10, 2016 Mangmoom, what a funny, mouthful word to use to call a card, still, just as well they didn't call it Ma-laeng-saab ( cockroach ) on the account that those critters are everywhere too......
12DrinkMore Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 It'll be a helllll of a long time before you can use these on the buses!! From the report: in the future There is not a single word about the expected prices for this spider card? It is a pre-payment card, not a pass card. I expect it will give a small discount to the current charges.

Come on Ezzra, get the brain in gear, don't let it be numbed by being in Thailand. I'll let you off because it is Sunday, the day of rest. Even I managed to get the "web of transport" idea behind it. From the article, Why mangmoom? Just like spiders that spin webs that reach everywhere, this ticket can be used to travel anywhere.
dave2 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 re It'll be a helllll of a long time before you can use these on the buses!! or the boats dave2
12DrinkMore Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 The idiot who came up with the transliteration "Mangmoom" should be put on inactive duty. "Mengmom" would allow a tourist to get reasonably close to a correct pronunciation. I would have preferred, "Sapider Card".
NoBrainer Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 What is wrong with the Rabbit card? There are already millions in circulation, they are accepted at 7/11 and other vendors. I guess the wrong ministers relatives own the Rabbit card business. Just like now having to use 2 different payment systems when traveling by road. You need an Easy Pass & now an M-Pass. NO LOGIC. The M-Pass still does not tell you your balance when you use it, and can not be topped up at the toll booths. Too many vested interests will keep this country struggling to be competitive for many decades to come.

callcharlie2001 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 I've had Thai's give me 3 answers as I wait with my Rabbit card while they do the queues: 1. They might die before they use up the value, they don't want their family to have a prepaid transit card that they might not be able to use, would rather have bhat in their pocket when they die. 2. Some don't realize that their daily, weekly work, shopping or recreation takes them on BTS on a repeating occurances. Thais lack of ability to plan? 3. Some don't have that much money in advance, they earn bhat daily, so spend it one day at a time.

Some don't have that much money in advance, they earn bhat daily, so spend it one day at a time. It's not just the Thais. I've met several western expats who never use these cards. When I ask why, they just look kind of blank and say something like "I can't be bothered" ... although obviously they can be "bothered" to wait in line for change and to buy a one-time ticket. Besides the small discount and not having to buy a ticket, I also like that I can change my mind about where I want to disembark and then don't have to hassle with paying extra at the exit gate.
rodknock Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 how is the card going to handle seniors???? the mrt gives seniors a discount and the bts does not for farang?????? does the senior farang get screwed again?????
meltingpot2015 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 there is a discount for using the standard rabbit card on BTS (depending on your trip), and no need to queue each time. Used to be something like 50bhat for the card and 50bhat deposit, which you get back if you return the card. If you use BTS a lot...it's a no brainer. By the way, if you carry bags (shopping bags etc.) through the gates, make sure you lift them over the gates. If you take them through the gates, the gate thinks the bag is a person and nearly chops your legs off. I believe the contract for the gates went to a chinese company (when the BTS was built).
dave2 Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 re they are accepted at 7/11 is that new ? coz i tried to use a rabbit card in a 7 eleven in decmber and they said cannot dave2

Greatest cause of congestion on the tollways are the toll booths.
Thian Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 how is the card going to handle seniors???? the mrt gives seniors a discount and the bts does not for farang?????? does the senior farang get screwed again????? Farang will have to pay according to weight and size. A person from 120 kg pays 2 tickets, fair enough.
Redline Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 It'll be a helllll of a long time before you can use these on the buses!! I will have expired
Redline Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Can the owner look at the details on the net because I would never trust that the balance would be accurate. You would never get your money back if it disappeared. That's probably another reason Thais don't use prepaid. They know they will never get their money returned for skimmed fairs or bogus charges.

Every card I have ever used in different parts of the world show your balance when you swipe the card at the station entry or on boarding or exiting a bus or tram. The cards for the skytrain and subway are the same. No reason to suggest this card will be any different.
