CHIANG MAI: Police in central Chiang Mai have warned women about wearing gold jewelry to the market as a gang of thieves are operating.

A hilltribe woman suffered a theft of a necklace, ring and earrings after she was befriended by a 50 year old woman. Yanyee Lungsing who works in San Kamphaeng said that the older woman befriended her telling her that she was ill and if she would see her to a neighbouring market she would give her 1,000 baht.

She agreed but on the way she stole from her. It appears that the younger woman was given a potion of sleeping tablets that made her drowsy and unaware what was going on. The incident happened between the Warorot market and the Muang Mai market.

Police studied CCTV of the route that the pair took and say that they have a good idea of who the thief is.

Police have warned young women to be on the lookout in the area.

Common sense,really.

i wear the hope diamond, never a problem

ok, ok...i also have an invisible cloak.

Between the Warorot market and the Muang Mai market... Do I have this correctly? She was helping an old woman, and 'somewhere' between the Warorot market and the Muang Mai market she was given a potion of sleeping tablets that instantly made her so drowsy (must have been instantly 'cuz it's only a few blocks between the markets,) and robbed? Why would any rational person drink from an unopened container given to them by a stranger? Doesn't she know about 'date rape?' Or in this case "Granny Rape?'

There is a LOT more to this story than meets the eye...

My guess? She sold the gold jewellery that her boyfriend/husband bought for her, and needed a good alibi so he would buy her more.

5 officers for a necklace, ring and earrings theft bloody hell ...

Yeah, you never see a pair of cops, always a team of them, plus obligatory photographer and backup pointers.

So you've seen the CCTV tapes the police have already. But dispute them, why? Oh I know, "It's elementary my dear Watson, elementary".

If someone offers you 1000 bath to bring her/he a few blocks down the road? What was it if its to good to be true

Twos up with the cloak Harry

I've never had a problem with my Submariner 18k/stainless steel Rolex; are things getting worse? Or, slow news day?

I haven't seen any CCTV tapes. I've only read what is said here. And what is said here leaves a LOT to speculation. How often do YOU drink from opened containers offered to you by someone you've met 10 minutes before? And just which drug is it that when swallowed works instantaneously? Some poisons might, but no tranquilizers, barbiturates, or opiates. All of 'em take at least 45 minutes to an hour to begin making a person drowsy. Even Scopalomine. It doesn't take an hour to walk from Warrorot Mkt to Muang Mai... It takes minutes. Yes, It's elementary my dear Watson, elementary.

Yeah....the robbers own the streets abd we cant and will not give a stinky somtam growler....

No, surely not?

Is that woman pointing at the Gang of Thieves???

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

No. Just the masterminds behind most other crimes.

Fake Rolex watches are on sale everywhere as any thief knows, and lots of foreigners wear fakes so no point in even attempting to steal one.

Good God 9 bib in the photo shoot just for a petty thief.

Oh wait, she's Burmese throw the book at her.

Case has been solved

for all the speculators and negative thinkers, enjoy your time in Chiang Mai

I wonder if the unidentified drug will ever be identified? Somehow I have my doubts.

I can't believe this was just a potion, I reckon she must have used her wand as well.

Wouldn't be the first Thai to get criminal ideas from the movies.
