Just arrived at DMK airport Bangkok having left from Hongkong.

I plan to stay in Thailand for 7 weeks which obviously exceeds the 30 day tourist limit.

I know it says on embassy website that they require proof of forward travel but I wasn't asked at either hongkong or Thailand to show it.

This was good for me as I haven't decided exactly when and to where I will do a boarder hop flight so it meant I could retain flexibility without committing to buying a flight.

But thinking about it now, so long as you arrive in good time, if you were asked to show onward travel you could have used airport wifi to buy a cheap flight in advance.

Thought I'd share as I was worrying about this before leaving.

Being able to board a plane from an Asian country to Thailand without a return ticket or a visa is normal. It's only western countries you might have a problem with boarding.

That is not always 100% correct. Many regional airlines are now asking for tickets out of the country to board flights.

OP, good idea you suggested allowing bit of extra time to book online if you need to. Some airlines seem to check for visa or onward flight more than others. AA for one. May I ask which airline you flew with.

"It's only western countries ..."

I have never actually heard of anyone being asked.....in any country.

I have heard about it many times. Including people that were forced to buy a expensive return ticket they did not want.

Over the years flying into Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore From either Heathrow or Gatwick in the UK

I have been asked for proof of onward travel on 9 times out of 10

I have had it happen in Sri Lanka and Germany.

It can be a problem if you don't have permission to stay e.g. retirement/marriage..

I come in every other month from the US and never asked for onward/return ticket..... BUT......... It is a requirement that you HAVE it and THEY CAN ask for it. Beware..... It all depends on your luck..........

Most of you have credit cards with sufficient limits, Just buy a fully refundable one-way ticket out of LOS a few days before you come then refund it to your credit card once you are here. The credit will be back on your credit card before the pament is ever due......................

It's equal to 1 (one) "GET OUT OF JAIL FREE" card........... LoL

Can you please give an example of such a ticket?

Out of curiosity: You fly into LOS once every 30 days and you never have a return ticket on the day you fly (i.e. you buy your return ticket when you are in TH)) or you have one but with a different airline to the one you fly into the country?

If a return ticket exists with the same airline (maybe all airlines), it is possible their screen informs them the return-ticket exists for the passenger, hence no need to ask for proof.

That´s exactly the reason why I asked.... ;-))

If you get a refund, then it's obviously not with AirAsia!!
