yes i do, thats the reason i started this topic. Thanks for all the participation and different point of views. I now believe that Koh Tao probably isnt less safe than the other islands (Samui and Phangan), nevertheless we decided not go to Ko Tao and replace it with something on the mainland or, if we feel in need fore more beaches, Samui. All that reading about brutally murdered tourists, hanged people and super corrupt cops just killed our vibe to go there (and yes, i do know that corrupt cops are all over thailand) - even if its irrational, but hey, thats what makes us human. Thanks again and all the best.

This topic of the the Koa Toa murders has been discussed enough... several posts hidden, there is enough on this in the Samui News Forum.

Personally I would not go to any place, from which I know, that it is managed by a brutal reckless Mafia, and finally support them with my hard earned cash. There are other places, even in Thailand.

Most persons who visit Koh Tao, I would guess, have been told of what a great time friends or relatives or persons who have actually been there and report on TripAdvisor, have had for the week or few weeks they are there, and are not concerned or worried about anyone's politics.

I agree. Those crimes don't happen on Koh Tao on a daily or a regular basis. It can happen anytime, anywhere! t's fine to go to Koh Tao if you're really in for diving and snorkeling activities. Pangan and Lanta are also good to check out.

Yes those thinngs can happen anyplace, anytime and anywhere. The reason I wouldnt go to Koh Tao is because when it happened there no one seemed interested in finding out who did it and putting those people in jail.

That is something that doesnt happen anytime anyplace or anywhere.

As a rule of thumb KT and KPG are OK providing you avoid the seven day window containing the full moon.

The over 40s stick out like bulldogs wotsits in Haad rin or anywhere on KT! :)

HTH

A lot of people don't like discussion about the murders on KT, I don't really know why.... but to be fair, far more foreigners die in 'suspicious' circumstances in other places like BKK and Pattaya etc.. However, it still never fills a potential traveller with excitement to hear that there are any number of murders on such a small, and isolated island... let alone unexplained foreign deaths.

KT was nice when I visited a few years ago, reminded me a bit of KPG 15 years earlier before Tesco / Big C and heaps of 7/11s. But KT is still getting very, very, crowded and as I wasn't interested in snorkelling, (just visiting some friends who have small businesses there) so I enjoyed other islands more. All that said, I am told they still get around 500,000 tourists each year so they must be doing something right....I guess the 6 police they have/had may be some cause for concern for some people, given the scale of the whole operation.

In conclusion - I would say YES, go if you have already booked, but just be careful about what you do, where you go, and keep your whits about you.

I would personally never choose to go back to KT because of the murders, but that is just me.

To be honest, sounds like you'd be better off travelling to Disney World or the like. Thailands popularity apart from the good things, is the mystery, danger, and uncertainty to many people who choose to come here ! Make sure you buy plenty of cotton wool before you leave your home country and wrap yourself up tight [emoji40][emoji298]️[emoji267][emoji111]️

Especially not.
In Disney World it seems that the Big Bad Wolf wanders freely ...

I wonder what that other username of the OP is,, because this username and thread are obviously started to bring the 2014 murders back on topic.

Knowing that somewhere there, murders running free, due to police corruption. There is no way i would recommend the place to any family or friends of mine. There has been too many unsolved murders and impossible suicides in the last couple of years. One young French man was found hanging with his hands tied behind his back, according to police it was suicide !

Why take the risk ?
