Retirement visa

Featured Replies

I am 53 yo USA citizen. I am in Thailand on a 60 tourist visa. Can I switch to retirement visa while remaining in Thailand?

You can do a change of visa status to obtain a 90 day non immigrant visa entry base upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon retirement. This can be applied at Bangkok immigration and a few other offices within the central region and possibley Chiang Mai.

You must have at least 15 day remaining on your entry and it will take 2 trips to immigration 15 days apart to get the visa/entry stamps. You will need to have 800k baht in a Thai banki on the date you apply or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the 2 totaling 800k baht.

If not living in or near Bangkok it might be easier to apply for a single entry non-o visa in Vientiane Laos or Penang Malaysia.

Then after getting the 90 day entry you can apply for an extension of stay based upon retirement during the last 30 days of it. At that time the 800k baht would need to be in the bank for 60 days if using that option.

Are you 100% sure it´s still possible to buy a Non Immigrant 90 days in Laos without beeing married or have another spouse in Thailand?

Exactly what papers do you need to show the embassy in Laos?

The thing is I heard people say that Non Im now only can be bought in your home country but maybe not true?

Your confused ......a non O based on retirement no problem in loas. Also as ubon pointed out possibly a good option for OP.

Perhaps your thinking of a non imm O-A. That needs to be obtained in ones own country

Some people says there is new requirement that you have to show proof that you are on pension, just be 50 and have the money is not enough anymore, you must have proof of pension from your country.

This is what is required if you seek a Non O visa from your home country in Europe.

So again, are you 100% sure that the only thing the require in Vietiane is 50 year and proof of money?

All the Embassies and Consulates have their own criteria and it can change. As it stands Vientiane will issue a single entry non 'O' based on retirement (over 50) and just require proof that you have 800K in the bank or a minimum income of 65K pm. They don't need proof that you are retired.
