Thai Tax Returns for Foreigners
I understand that the Revenue Department will amend the law to collect taxes from residents who have income from abroad, even if that income is not brought into the country. As such it would apply in the determination of Thai taxed income relative to any foreign resident's country's Double Taxation Treaty if applicable. Thai taxation may exceed foreign citizen's home country's taxation (ie., higher Thai tax bracket than foreigner's home country tax bracket). The amendment would be consistent with the principle of taxation of worldwide income, such as required in the case for US citizens regardless whether they bring that income into the US or not. For US citizens (I don't know if this is unique or similar for other countries), it also triggers the mandatory annual Foreign Bank Account Report (FBAR) to identify foreign funds held under almost any kind of ownership that exceeds cumulatively $10,000. Failure to file has a very high penalty. -

Setting this on in the menu means that, when you brake and come to a complete standstill the brake (equivalent to a handbrake) will automatically be applied even after you have taken your foot of the pedal. Very useful, especially at traffic lights -

Krungsri Interest Rates
Agree. I'm getting 5.3% currently on a 1 year fix on cash ISA and 4.75% on easy access. Newcastle building society and Saga respectively. I'm also getting over 5% with Barclays on a relatively low amount but only because I've got premier banking. All adds up though compared to years of pitiful rates. There are higher rates available through some of the App only institutions but I'm prepared to sacrifice a few quid to have the comfort of a name I know. -

555. That's right. The motorcyclist was a hero for being clipped by the truck, even though he probably would have scooted off pronto, if he knew he was dealing with a huge truck bomb. I don't remember any consequences for the plods who were too lazy to inspect the contents or the truck that had been abandoned in suspicious circumstances by a Middle Easterner and left it for days with the potential to blow up and the whole cop shop plus some surrounding buildings, including the Israeli embassy. A few years later there was an incident where Iranians who had set up a bomb factory in a house in Ekkamai on behalf of their government had a shoot out with police. I think someone had reported them as acting suspiciously in that house. One of them tossed a home made bomb at police and instead of harming police blew off his own private parts. The Thai police managed to arrest a few of them on that occasion but the government decided to exchange them for trade benefits with Iran after short spells in prison. Thai police and government performance have been very comforting for Israelis on both occasions.
