Thailand welcomes Aung San Suu Kyi



BANGKOK, 23 June 2016 (NNT) - The State Counsellor of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi has visited Thailand on Thursday and will meet with the Thai Prime Minister to discuss labor cooperation.

Mrs Suu Kyi arrived in Thailand for the first time as the de facto leader of Myanmar’s government and as an official guest of the Thai government on the invitation of Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha. She was accompanied by her Cabinet, the Ministers of Labour, Immigration and Population, Planning and Finance, and State for Foreign Affairs.

The delegate was welcomed by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, before proceeding to the Embassy of Myanmar in Thailand for an internal meeting with the Myanmar authorities.

On June 24, Mrs Suu Kyi will meet with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai and will give a keynote address to students on the topic of “Myanmar, ASEAN and the World: The Way Forward” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She will then meet with Gen Prayut at Government House to discuss strengthening cooperation in labor and assisting Myanmar refugees in Thailand. Both governments will sign a memorandum of understanding on foreign employment and afterwards deliver a press conference together.

On June 25, Mrs Suu Kyi is scheduled to depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport at 5:50pm, having canceled her trip to visit refugee camps in Ratchaburi province.

The Lady, ASSK, who was under house arrest for years under a military junta in Burma, comes to visit Thailand as the de facto President of Myanmar, now a

democracy, and is greeted by a representative of a military junta that now governs Thailand which was formerly a democracy.

Ironic.

no doubt a lady who has represented/created an image.

hopefully she can give the karen what they were promised for their war time efforts against the japanese, their own nation.

the karen i know generally say little when people talk about her, here in aus.
