Police intercept student activists holding activities to remember the June 24 revolution

402_Ja-New-wpcf_728x409.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Several student activists were intercepted and arrested by the police at two locations in Bangkok after they held activities to mark the June 24 revolution that ended the country's absolute monarchy rule in 1932.

New Democracy Group leader Siriwich Serithiwat or “Ja New” and his mother were stopped by police as they tried to join another small group of students reading a statement at the Royal Plaza to remember those joining the revolution that ended the country’s absolute monarchy 84 years ago.

They laid flowers on the floor where the bronze revolution knots were punched 84 years ago by the “Khanaraj” Group revolution leader to mark the June 24 revolution that brought democratic rule to the country.

As Ja New and his team walked up to join, he was stopped by police who were observing the student activities at the Royal Plaza.

But after a brief struggle and negotiation, he was allowed to join.

He laid flowers on the revolution knots to honour the revolution and said these bronze knots changed the Thai history.

They arrived here today to remember the day 84 years ago that the Khanaraj had turned the country to democratic rule, he said.

Meanwhile at Kasetsart University, police also intercepted a small group of students trying to walk out if the campus to a coup cracking monument at Laksi intersection.

They were surrounded by police trying to stop them to hold activities to mark the June 24 revolution event.

No charges were so far imposed on the students but only they were stopped by police to go further to the monument.
