one stat I heard was that the total money wiped off the Uk markets is equivalent to ALL 40 YEARS of UK contributions to the EU.!!!???

Markets are already back to where they were.

Nothing wiped off.

So that 31 year low of GBP against US is imaginary then!

Only a Brexiteer could be so massively ill-informed

I live in London,

Generally the people there (local and foreign) are way more polite and kind than the people in Thailand.

And hardly any racism, nobody in London would be shouting Farang (or similar) to any half Thai child.

Can you imagine walking down the street in Thailand and having Thai people shout "go home foreigner!" at you? How about if they daubed the expats clubs with anti farang slogans?

What the Brexit supporters have gained is a promise from me that I will never live in the UK again. Having read about the surge in racially motivated hate crimes since the referendum, there's no way I would take my daughter to live in a country full of nasty, bigotted, ignorant louts like the UK (England in particular, excluding London perhaps).

On these forums, we often see complaints of how we are treated by Thai people - double pricing, being ignored in shops, and the tortous immigration procedures have all been commented on recently. I dont like double pricing or immigration's seemingly unsatiable appetite for paperwork but until Thai people start verbally abusing me in the street, burning my property, and sending me death threats, I'll consider them (as a whole) more enlightened than my countrymen back home.

Farang?

Pattaya balcony?

I have lived in central London most of my life and never seen any racial hatred, it would be impossible as there is so many races living there. But after 1 month in Thailand I've seen plenty of racism, usually the casual insult to whites by the 'farang' name, but also in double pricing from many. Strange really as advertising propaganda would have us believe English people are the devil and Thai people are angels.

Yet again misandry misses the point as a result of being completely uninformed.

How about if they point and shout 'farang'? Then charge you 10x to enter their parks?

Then there are a couple of shops in San Sai I can't use because they always overcharge me because I'm white.

only a foreigner suffering from an inferiority complex feels insulted when called "foreigner".

I disagree with MisAndry on many things, but on this I agree entirely.

I live in London,
Generally the people there (local and foreign) are way more polite and kind than the people in Thailand.
And hardly any racism, nobody in London would be shouting Farang (or similar) to any half Thai child.

I was recently in London where I witnessed strangers on the tube helping an old guy on and off a tube train, the old guy was white, the people helping then Asian. A young white woman helping a black (I believe American) woman carry her kids down an escalator at a tube station. Race is not an issue for the vast majority of people in London, good manners and politeness are common place.

Politeness and patience at bus stops and while queuing to get on/off buses.

The good manners not to be standing looking over people's shoulders at ATM machines, not to stand over people who are entering their PIN at supermarket checkouts.

The politeness and good manners in London are noticed, commented on and very much appreciated by foreign visitors.

These things are also infectious, the constant flow of people from around the world that makes, and has always has made, London such a great city, pick up and practice the good manners that define the city like ducks to water.

As an Italian friend of mine who's studying at Imperial commented, Londoners the politest people she's ever met 'if you accidentally tread on their foot, they say sorry'.

London is a fabulous, forward thinking and forward moving city that has kept the best of its past good habits.

When did pointing and shouting at people slightly different to yourself become acceptable in your world view?

So what did the Brexit supporters gain?

Well so far, they've pushed Cameron to resign, maybe Osborn soon to follow?

On the flip side.

They've also now seen their beloved Farage step down as leader of UKIP.

Boris Johnson stabbed in the back by his mate Gove to now find himself also out of the leadership race.

So they now have Andrea Leadsom as the last Brexiter to challenge for PM, who is having her qualifications

questioned. Does she install confidence to the Brexit negotiations?

There's always remainer Theressa May to come to the rescue though, but her views are not what the Brexiters

are wishing for.

So politically speaking the British Government are in a mess with an enormous job at hand to save the country

from political and economical meltdown in the foreseeable future.

God save the Queen.

nobody in Thailand points or shouts at a Farang without a valid reason. my claim is based on many years experience.

But you are driven around by a chauffeur, and live a life insulated from the locals, how would you know?

In 'Post Factual England' that is called a gain.

Meanwhile the Bank of England is printing money and reducing interest rates to try and reduce the negative impact of Brexit on the economy.

TO THE PRIME MINISTER AND ALL MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

9 July 2016

Dear Prime Minister and Members of Parliament

Re: Brexit

We are all individual members of the Bars of England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We are writing to propose a way forward which reconciles the legal, constitutional and political issues which arise following the Brexit referendum.

The result of the referendum must be acknowledged. Our legal opinion is that the referendum is advisory.

UK markets are up only in Sterling terms. the lion share of their assets are held by institutions and people who look at these markets valued in "real" and "hard" currencies, such as Thai Baht, Angolan Kwanza, Cowrie Shells, Saudi Riyals, Shrinkheads, US Dollars and €URos.

Leadsom has withdrawn so May it is, the request to move things along much faster was apparently taken on board and the Brexit wish has been granted. But Brexit supporters now saying that it's a stitch and that UK is screwed by virtue of choosing May, all of which reminds me of going shopping with my ex-wife when she said she wanted to shop at Debenhams but failed to say mention she intended the branch in Paris!

So, apart from wanting to leave the Eu it seems Brexit types also want to select the PM and perhaps even chose the wall paper in the dining room of No 10! Watch for any failure over the next five years to lead to instant synchronised finger pointing and harmonised cries of, I told you so. Big sigh.

You should go into politics - you are adept at comparing apples and oranges!!

I said the FTSE (both indices) were up on the day. Fact.

You come back with am irrelevant, unconnected statement. Labour front bench for you I think.

Let me try again to see if you can grasp the message:-

In the last month (a reasonable spread before and after the vote):-

FTSE 100 UP 747 points

FTSE 250 UP 519 points.

Or is that down in the eyes of Remainiacs ?

Posted (edited)

What currency are the constituent stocks of both of those indices denominated in?

If you have 100 apples, and the value of each is $10

Someone gives you 2 apples, but the value of an apple decreases to $8.50

You started with 100 apples with a total value of $1000. You now have 102 apples with a value of $867.

Yes, the FTSE 100 and 250 can quite easily be construed as 'down' in a global context.

May has done well (I hope) in appointing a cabinet with Brexit members in key positions.

So far, so good. Obviously we have no idea of what is going on 'behind the scenes', but gradually we'll get a better idea of May's/Cabinet's plans.
