Confidential Shipping Concerns for Online Business

Hello group. I am seriously considering starting a small online business (website) selling T-shirts and small Thai knick-knacks online. I'd like to ship directly from Thailand, but I do not have a valid work permit yet. My hope is to test out the business idea and see if it works before investing into the legal paperwork of starting a Thai business. I want to be legit, but I need to see if the idea is profitable first. I'm currently on a so-called retirement visa.

So, here are my questions. Would I be putting myself at risk bringing 2-4 small packages (T-shirts) to the post office every day? Is this foolish and high-risk behavior? What can I do to mitigate risk? Would they ask to see my passport to mail multiple T-shirts every day? What is my level of risk and what can I do to mitigate my risk? I don't want to be kicked out of paradise for something dumb. :-)

One more thing: I'd use regular Thai Royal Air Mail with tracking, right? I'm told I should expect to pay maybe 200-300 baht per small package. Does this sound right to you? I believe it would take about 2 weeks to USA. Anyone with some experience, I'd appreciate your insights.

Thanks.

Under current regulations ID/Passport will be required when sending parcels Internationally.

Parcels by Registered Airmail to USA generally take around 14 days to arrive, depending on final location and how the USPS is performing but that service is trackable on both Thai Post system and USPS.

If you are concerned about ID requirements and convenience etc, why not get a Thai person to do the posting for you.

Legally/Technically you are selling/running a business for profit and are working, and therefore require a "work permit", and appropriate visa, any suggestion otherwise is "illegal", what you do about that is a personal choice.

Here is a link to the Post Office website: http://www.thailandpost.com/index.php?page=index&language=en

If you look top right for "calculate" it will give you the various options/cost for sending any specific weight to wherever.

ANY SUGGESTION OF BYPASSING CURRENT LEGAL REQUIREMENTS WILL RESULT IN THIS THREAD BEING CLOSED IMMEDIATELY as per forum rules.

Just went to the post office, and all the Thais had to put their ID card in a slot when sending post. I had to show my ID (thai Drivers license) I dont think they care a bit about a work permit and unless someone has it out for you its unlikely to attract attention.

I can understand about trying things out first and also the 4 Thai to 1 foreigner is for many businesses just crazy.

Nobody cares but I hardly believe that someone not even able to check shipping prjce on post website will ever succeed in anything.

Also, it's clear that you will never sell enough ti register any company, open your eyes.

This is what Thai Visa is known and loved for. I would be disappointed if I didn't get at least one answer like this! Haha. Let's talk about Thai women and double pricing next. 555.

I think as an American, there are some benefits when I do open a Thai business. My number one rule here is "don't screw this up, it's pretty nice here!" So, I want to be legal next year. I've been told many times that there are "creative" accounting and legal tricks regarding all business requirements, including hiring Thais. I have two legal sources I trust. One advertises on this website.

I have 20 years ecommerce and marketing experience, so I know exactly what it takes to make an online business work. Just need to test out particular trends and products before sinking larger sums. Don't want to wind up in handcuffs from testing some T-shirt designs. :-)

Hello,

20 years experience and posting these questions is a joke, right ?

The poster above is right I think, it's so funny if you really think that you have even a little chance to make enough profit to own a company.

People who succeed do not talk, they do, and when you are still thinking about doing something they would have already sent their first order.

But good luck anyway, it's good to dream <3

I have 19 years experience selling online, doing online marketing, creating branding campaigns, and have made millions of dollars. Funny the assumptions people make. I checked the Thai post office prices. I am here at Thai Visa because there are people who know far more about Thailand than I do and may have suggestions I haven't thought of. The last time I posted, I got very valuable information and very little sniping and just curmudgeonry. I understand that some people wish to spread their own life's misery. It's the "Thailand is horrible" crowd who never manage to leave.

Any business is impossible and doomed to failure unless you know what you're doing. Online is no different. My specific question was about shipping and its implications. I did get some good advice. Thanks for that!

DHL would be cost prohibitive. I've done ecommerce and Web development since 1997 and have made millions, yes. I retired in Thailand and want to have a go at something new. I intend to sell considerably more than three T-shirts.

I know you are just miserable and looking to flame someone. You don't know me, my background, or my name. Flaming is just part of what goes down here. Fair enough. OK, I've gotten what I've needed from this thread. Drinks all around.

You don't even know what is DHL ecommerce special service, you are worst than the worst I could imagine and you keep talking, funny you....

I do not have experience shipping from Thailand. That's why I posted to this forum. Make sense? For small packages, initially in small quantities, I doubt it would be cheaper. Can check them. Thanks for the suggestion.

By the way, why are you at war with a random stranger in a forum? Is this what you do as a kind of porn experience? Flame people you don't know? If so, hope I've brought you some release of tension and have a good rest of the day.

Thank you to everyone who posted helpful answers to this post and privately to me. I got some valuable advice that I needed.

And thanks to the flamers who insist I will fail, that there is no hope in general, and/or that I'm a delusional fraud who should be roasted slowly, BBQ style. I hope that you find fulfillment in this life and that you succeed in your own pursuits, whatever they may be. May all beings be released from suffering.

Ask a question, get mad at the answers.

If you have all the answers already why bother asking?

Maybe if those posters would stick to answering the questions posed in stead if commenting on the OP's business sense the comments would be better appreciated.

Millions seller onlines and cant invest 10-20k for open company and get rent some place ,staff ..

In This way its delivery price be different. And delivery cost too.

PS

And its crime in Thailand work with out permit.

People who got millions want risk for few grands?

An what you do when sells it be fine? Faster start open company and for customers say. Sorry can you wait few month?

Or go on post with hundreds parcel per day and hope not have any interest to your person?

And last.

Yes DHL cheapest if send bulk.

But need Company.

Company in Thailand its not easy few days open as in HK or US.
