Popular Post Pdaz
Apologies for being absent. Finally back home and in my makeshift kitchen.. Salmon en croute is the dish if the day. Nice sized chunk of fresh Scottish salmon, topped with spinach and wrapped in some of foodlands best frozen puff pastry :) Only 5 minutes to throw together and 25 mins in the oven.. Easy as, but always a pleasing result.

Quote Most of the game recipes I make require some fruit btw... that's the ugly done thing in my home country too. years ago i dined with a couple of high ranking Arabs (minister of defence and a 3-star general) in a top German restaurant. both were scared shítléss that some unclean non-halal food, prepared by some unclean infidel shaitan worshipping kaffirs, might be served. so i suggested "Rehbraten" (red deer roast). but Arabic has no expression for deer and my explanations (hunting, wild animal, etc.) were met with blank stare till the ice broke and i thought of "ghazal" (gazelle) which was met with wholehearted approval. when the food was served we didn't trust our eyes. instead of a heavy dark brown gravy the roast was totally covered with a red sauce containing cherries, raspberries, strawberries and what not. we had a fit, the chef had a fit and the manager had a fit² but we insisted "take it back or we shove it up yours!" i don't want to reveal how sorry that evening ended.

mogandave
there are plenty of marinades for beef with red wine, always thought that the marinade also helped to tenderize...never tried none meself... someone asked earlier about making sausages? there have been threads over the years on this, do a search...useta do it meself, needa meat grinder with a sausage attachment and casings which should be available at the market, havta prepare them...there are tons of sausage recipes on google; yer only limited by availability of ingredients, exotic spices, etc...plenty of pork available... always wanted to do some louisiana hot links...hmm, gotta unearth the meat grinder and hope that the sausage attachment and the little cutting blade didn't get lost...they're up in the thai family kitchen somewhere... 'where's my meat grinder, godammit!?' and the womenfolk purr menacingly: 'I'll grind yer meat pretty soon here ifn ye don't watch out...' Where's that sausage casing when I need one? Rc2702
Howling with laughter the other night. I found this jam a few months back and surprisingly the jar is not a jar but a little tumbler glass. Mrs washed it and I found it and enquired where it came from. She told me its from the pineapple jam I brought. So I goes back the shop and buys 3 more of these jams and in a week she's done two of them and into the 3rd so newly got a fill set if these little tumblers. She gets peckish one night last week and she's there eating a cheese and jam toasted sandwich. errgh. You had to be there but it was funny. I agree but this is that sugary thai stuff it will be very sweet. I think it might have actually been strawberry jam as I brought two pineapple and 1 strawberry. The glasses are great though for a bit of wine.

For a strawberry jam and cheese toastie it would have to be Cheshire cheese for me. Again - not the too sweet jam.

Not seeing it (as in can't imagine the taste) but intrigued. I'll mention it to the Mrs., which would probably make it appear in a day or two. As for canned tuna, after years of being a default emergency, dropped it completely. Too much vile stuff there.

mogandave
If you've never had peanut-butter & horseradish it is surprisingly good. Not creamy but ground horseradish. I never see horseradish here though.Five Guys is okay, but it is hard to get around to a burger when I'm in SoCal, and I like the Habit a little better. And there is always in-and-out around in a pinch...Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

U235
A suggestion for the next edition of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival: They copy so many Western things, so why not this? PS: this is the sauerkraut I made a couple of weeks ago. Almost perfect, but will become better if I keep it a bit longer (it's still a bit green)
mogandave
My dad used to make sauerkraut. Sometimes he'd cook a big pot of spareribs or kielbasa in it.I could go for a hot, fat, kielbasa & kraut on a French roll with a good spicy mustard...Side of spicy macaroni salad and a crisp pickle on the side...Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect
