Popular Post anotheruser
This is a place to put pictures of what you have made lately at home. Obviously you can cheat a little and order things out to add to the picture but it should be mostly your own creation. I bought a grill and did some teppanyaki the other night. It is a pretty traditional meal and easy to make. The main thing is to set up the place settings before you serve it. Wipe the Kobe steaks with a paper towel to make sure there is no moisture and sear them shut on hot with no oil or seasoning of any kind. It tastes very good and what I like about it is you don't need to do anything out of the ordinary, it is dead simple to cook. Dip it in a Japanese sesame steak sauce and enjoy. Add a bit of sake which can be either chilled or warm depending on your mood and you have a very good meal that is very easy to do at home. The ribeye Wagyu and striploin are from Passiondelivery. The sushi is from Kaisen and is on Foodpanda. So let's have a nice thread about nice food at home and if possible say where you were able to buy the ingredients or some tips on what your personal take is on the dish. This is my personal take on Japanese style teppanyaki at home. In this case the flavors speak on their own. For a fuller steak I would recommend the ribeye wagyu but if you are going to slice it teppan style as I did I suggest the striploin. The tamagawa tokubetsu junmai is very smooth and a pure sake with no distilled spirits or alcohol added. Where ever you buy your sake, junmai is just a type that means pure rice with no additives. Isetan is a very nice place to go and their staff are also helpful. It is a very colorful place to shop. For the people that will come just to say how much better they eat for cheaper, that is fine but I think you should provide a picture to respond to this thread. Show us what we can put together in Thailand. I know there are some greats cooks that dwarf what I can do. This is the thread for good food and good booze shared with friends. Popular Post anotheruser
Pasties stuffed with lamb, served with whipped garlic potatoes and broccoli smothered in cheese sauce. The Pasty is from Passiondelivery and the rest is just from Tops and the usual places. I am normally quite fussy about the pastry and the fact that this is a frozen pasty yet came out so incredibly good surprised me. Also of note is that they don't skimp on the lamb and fillings, with a side dish it is easily enough for a meal. This is the real deal for those looking for their pasty fix at home. It is as good or better than anything an english pub is serving. The price is also really reasonable, at 160 Baht it is actually less than some frozen things at Villa that do not compare in taste and texture. Before anybody gets snarky I do not work for Passiondelivery and have just recently started ordering things from them so thought I would share some of my first impressions of their goods. I could have cleared the clutter off the table but I was hungry and there was simply just no time for that. 6

anotheruser
Anotheruser, in the second pic the sliced beef, is that cooked meat or waiting to be cooked- looks way too rare to eat? It is cooked already. Normally I cook it a bit more but with Kobe beef I only sear it and cook it until it as rare as it can be but the texture is still not that stringy texture you get when it is too raw. Some people probably wouldn't like it as rare as I do. There were other pieces that were more of a medium rare but this was the ones I chose for my plate. Also when you cut it into strip in this style in my opinion you can cook it more rare than usual. I made a portion of medium rare for my partner.
Popular Post anotheruser
Don't we get enough of this on Facebook without it starting up on TV as well!! What's the problem? You deliberately entered a thread knowing it was a food pic thread. Is this somehow interfering with your enjoyment of this particular food sub-forum? Are we disturbing your hang out? One of my observations about TV is there is very little use of pictures, people don't normally have avatars, not many video clips. I am going to start adding pics to the Bangkok restaurant thread as well. I am sure there is a why to disable pictures if you prefer restaurant reviews with no pics. One thing that distinguishes this thread from FB posts is the people here are generally in Thailand so if something looks good it should be easily reproduced in LOS. For this reason I encourage people to share where they got their ingredients from. This is one thread out of many on TV and if it bothers you it is easily avoided. For the rest of us into eating well and food culture I think it is a nice addition. Let me guess, you probably don't cook much at home? So what are you eating?
anotheruser
@anotheruser, the pasty looks good, nothing else posted I'd want to eat so far. The thread really isn't about any one persons individual tastes, you probably wouldn't eat everything in a grocery store either. The tacos look pretty good, as do the buffalo wings. The one with the tomahawk and quiche looks great as well. My only suggestion for his posts would be to get his pics where a a blue pvc pipe isn't in the background. Looking back at mine I could have rmoved my leg out of my pasty pic as well. lol There are going to be things that aren't to my taste either but this is just a sign of the diverse dishes we are all making. It looks like he could run a restaurant quite easily. There will be some people selling food products that would probably be interested in this thread as well to see what their potential customer is doing in a Thai kitchen. So please if you post give a tip on how to make the food or say what you use even if the comment is very brief. Somtam...geng keow wan...tum yum...other curries...spring rolls...mock chicken wings...and on and on... Aroy mahk! What are the mock chicken wings made out of? How are they cooked? Mainly vegetable and soy protein and gluten. These are not home made. Everything else is...including the spring rolls, but she buys these commercially...frozen in a bag. Can be fried or baked or even microwaved, i suppose. Next time we get some, I'll post a pic and ingredients.

Can someone tell me where I can get tofu that tastes like and has consistency of chicken? I have had it in a Vegetarian restaurant in Bkk, but don't know where to purchase it... go down to your local traditional/fresh market and check out the hand made, unpackaged tofu...it don't taste like anything on its own but in true tofu fashion acquires the flavor of whatever you cook it with...I usually stir fry with whatever veg is available with plently of onions and garlic...firm consistency...

Skeptic7
I am more interested in how it is made. Can't help much with that. Highly processed vegetarian junk food! There are every kind of mock meats out there. Similar flavors and textures to the real things.

anotheruser
Gammon, hashbrowns, breakfast sausage patties, toast and eggs, for dinner tonight. All of this is bought at Villa. Some of it not in this photo. The grill has been very handy picked it up in Isetan on sale for 2,500 Baht so much better than the stupid hobs that come with most condos. One side has extra elements for searing things instantly. I highly recommend it.
