Don't worry. Just hide your money. If it does work out, just throw her out and go get another. Shelf Life of most Thai girls is 3-5 years.

In these financial, troubling times, rent everything and pay ladies as you go!

You will sleep well.

Prepare....

Have backup...

Love can be a serious mental illness. Especially, when we see wives kill their own children and husband!

An illusion that keeps on taking.

Most men die broke from women they can never please!

Pay yourself first. Look out for number one.

Most married couples are miserable today for many reasons.....mostly money.

No idea what the statistics are, but I married my Thai wife 25 years ago, raised 3 kids in the US, and am now semi retired splitting time between the US and Thailand. She's comfortable both places, but mainly has Thai friends in the US.

While no marriage is perfect 100% of the time, most of my friends envy me for having such a good one. I'd say more of my friends married to American women have failed marriages than those married to Thais living in the US.

To me, what is destined to fail is a farang/Thai marriage when the farang lives in Thailand part time, and wife lives in Thailand full time.

Quite similar. Married with my Thai wife nearly 30 years now, which of about 20 years spent in Switzerland. Retired now in Thailand, some old friends are still together with their Thai wives, none of my Swiss friends with Swiss/European wives are still married, all divorced. Generally i think, the percentage of divorce is not very different.

why the hell would anyone get married? just setting yourself up to get f#cked over. most guys here have been here through the wringer onces back in ferangland. is hard to see why they would do it again here in thailand. that is a little off topic. anyway taking a thai back to the western world is 'generally' a bad idea, but of course there are exceptions. my girl wants to take our 2 kids back to be educated in nz. her rational is that rich thais try to get their kids overseas educations so we should do it as well. we did the 5 month trip last year to try it out and she still wants to move over permanently, or at least until the kids finish high school. will see how it works out. will still have her house here if we need to move back. we are living in esan now and i am actually quite enjoying the lifestyle and the school we are using here is excellent. is going to be just as hard for me to leave thailand as it if for her. she actually enjoyed the food when we were back there so we might have a chance.

Does "failed marriage" also include women who marry geezer and use him as springboard to get younger man in hubby's home country? During rocket launches, first stage is dropped after serves it's purpose and used up, but launch is not considered "failure". For woman, "failed" marriage is success: onward to bigger and better things!

From what I've seen in the US, it's the other way around. Dumping the younger guy for a more stable, retired, or almost retired dude. Out of the eleven friends who married Thai women, nine have been married for 15-20 years. The age difference was usually 20+ years, with one being 38 years.

The two that failed were younger friends with age differences of about 10 years.

Of course, it's a small sample size.

I totally agree with Mark123456! Until you are mature enough to look at a woman as just that a "woman" you are probably wasting your time getting married. All females are just another female with their own character, physical characteristics, personalities and faults. It does not matter if American, English, Japanese, Korean or Thai. You need to know the female well enough to feel comfortable with who she is. If not, or not interested enough to learn then stay away from the marriage game. Spend some quality time and learn who the woman really is. Do all American, English, Japanese, Korean or Thai men act the same or put the same amount of effort into a marriage? Absolutely not, so results are varied. Good luck!

So let me get this straight you start by saying why would you want to marry. Setting yourself up to get screwed over!!! Correct so far????

Then you start on the me and my gal are going to NZ of course with the but there are exeption. Of which I presume you are one yes!!!!!!. So slag the Thai off in first bit then hope nobody notices you don't take your own advise in the last bit. Now your going to say well we aren't married!!! Same as living together or married no diffrence. Please you can't have it both ways oh sorry yes YOU can

need to read my post again.

first getting married in thailand for a man means she can take half your stuff. correct.

i dont think my girl is the exception, i believe there is a good chance she will not be happy and we will be back in thailand at some point. tell me again where i slag off thais. hope you answer this as i like thai people and appreciate that they let me live in their country.

in thailand in the eyes of the law living together does not mean the same as married.

have what both ways?

some clarification please.

Just a small point to clarify.....when getting married in Thailand for a man means she can take half your stuff....upon divorce only assets accrued during the marriage are to be shared 50/50. So whatever the man had before marriage stays his unless he has a bad lawyer.

In many cases, its the Thai community wives, (witches)that prime the wife of how she can fleece her husband of his money and his property. When the wife has had enough of her husband and the country she is living in,she will put these plans into action.Like running off to a battered wives home telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty.Better if she has a kid.If the hubby wants to keep his home, then they come to a financial agreement, usually, outrageously in favour of the vampire. The solicitors must love these situations.

But the upshot is.She ends up back in her village, with the stinking hole in the ground toilets and a house which is a hotel to rats, mice and cockroaches, but she has now got money. She tries for a while to get the payments through a Thai solicitor straight to her bank account or by western union. This only lasts for so long until the guy wakes up and says "enough".Ofcourse, he never sees his child again. And he never knows if she has a new boyfriend.(Re the Scottish soldier affair) and he finds out that after a year of not supporting her, they are divorced. But she will never tell him that, just incase he wants to see the child in the future,(on a purely finacial arrangement in her favour)

I know 2 guys that this has happened to.At the time, they were given all the warnings, but paid no heed.

Such a shame.

I have many English friends that have married Thai women and brought them to live in the UK. I would say the majority worked out very well, bought homes, had children and settled down nicely to live happily ever after. But there were the disaster cases.

Some once they managed to get permanent residence in Britain then deserted their British husbands, getting legal aid for a divorce claiming half the house and alimony. Other Thai wives wanted it all, a British passport, a house, a child and once archived left UK hubby high and dry having to pay the tab and support for the child or children.

what a loser.

No such statistic exists.

Of the five people I know who left for home countries with Thai wife bursting with enthusiasm, 4 of them cleaned out

their better half once they learned they got paid to split and it was enforced.

Better odds if one stays here and a tremendous liability if one takes them to home country.

And I detest that word farang... it is belittling oneself !

Five years is too early, but virtually 99% of the Thai/American marraiges I have known, be it Thai girl/Army/Navy/Airforce or Thai Girl/Contractor failed - I have only known three go the distance with the Fahlung husband . Have known plenty with the Fahlung husband dying and the lady returning toThailand with a fist full of $$. This is why to this day I am unmarried after forty years in SE Asia, never be worth more dead than alive. wai2.gif

I am impressed, she never once changed her expression - stone cold liar, caught in a lie, and still maintains innocence - That baby is ice cold, and I would like to see what happened to this guy, if he allows her to stay with him much longer, he is doomed to have a (drug induced) heart attack). wai2.gif

Hi,

I have 3 friends in Swiss who are married to a Thai (over 5 years already). And none of them are divorced. I also don't know about problems.. but even threre are, I guess I only would know about a problem if it is too late. So till know all Thai/Swiss mariages I know of are still successfull.

Not for this topic, but a nice question would be to know, why the divorce happens. And I not mean the Standart stories, which is always explained by only one site......

I'm from the Vietnam generation. Of the men I know who married Thai women back in the 70's, there are far more of them together after 30 or 40 years than I can count on 2 hands. The women aren't much different today than back then. Military life might have played a role. Where I live in Thailand, I can easily count another 10 who have been married more than 20 years......a few closing in on 50.

For what it's worth.....most all the marriages involve women who have spent considerable years out of country....been westernized.....but remain Thai deep down inside.

There is such a thing as a "Prenuptial Agreement" (at least if one is married in the US as I was) to prevent that from happening, or at least improving one's odds.

Oh, and BTW, we're not all alike either.

I have a sweetheart of a Thai niece who is married to a bat-shit crazy farang kee-nook. I hope she dumps him someday. If she does I'm sure he'll be ripping up Thai women on one of these boards.

Probably same as western marriage, unless farang has married a bar girl, or a girl 40 years his younger..

Off subject, but, any oil rig workers, might be a mate of yours.. This English bloke would have to be the dumbest on earth, Married to a Lao-Thai girl, she lives in phuket, with her Thai bf, who she has told English husband is gay.. Husband sends money, and a lot of money what i have been told, she bought Thai bf, land, 4 million baht, minivan around 2 million, also paying for a salon in there home... when he visits, thai bf moves to the spare room, neighbours know and asked him who thai man is, his reply, a gay friend of his wife.. Most just dont want to get involved, as he seems so dumb... She's also paid for Thai bf, whom she tells people who elsewhere is her Thai husband, a nose job, and some sort of skin whitening procedure. shes had the same done..

Iv seen a pic, he's tall and bald, think name is Gary her name porn, if you know him, tell him to open his eyes and ask <deleted> is going on, she apparently is shitting herself, as Thai friends have found out and are disgusted with her, she plays the rich high so, but really a bar girl, it seems...

Damn, you just fecked up 14 relationships with this expose, how dumb are you ??

Joke, joke. Ha ha ha

You might like to Think that it has something to do with being Thai and the husband being a Farang.

But in reality more than on third of all marriages fail within five years in most western countries.....mostly due to problems that the couple can not resolve.

Quite often the actual cause of this is do to the birth of a child to the couple....which changes the dynamics of the relationship between the man and the woman.

Especially if the woman is expected to be the primary caretaker for the child, which introduces a new set of problems into the marriage.

But I do know , from personal experience, a Thai woman who went back to the U.K. with her loving husband and could never adapt to why her husband expected her to let him spend spending more time in a pub with his "mates" than with her.

She never understood why he had to go to the pub most every night in the week, and he never understood what she was complaining about.

Two years later they were divorced, and she came back to Thailand.

She was the sister of my Thai girlfriend.

While I cannot deny unresolvable problems are detrimental to a relationship, I do not see childbirth as a divisive factor. I have seen it more a unifying factor for the marriage and the relationship. It seems most married women want children; women who do not want their partying interrupted might not.

Isn’t there already something wrong in the relationship if the man wants to spend most every night in the pub rather than spend some time with his wife? I think no woman would like that—unless she wanted him gone. So, he goes to the pub because he is unhappy and because he goes to the pub his wife is unhappy. Did they have nothing in common, no basis for their relationship? There is your unresolvable problem.

I have known several Thais, Vietnamese, and Filipinas who have gone back to the states with their farang husbands and did well. Granted, most still maintained a circle of friends from their home country as a buffer zone. The ones who did best, I think, had farang friends too. They actually acclimated to being in the US, picked up the language and socio-cultural norms, and became content away from home. They would visit home, but they were ready to come back to farangland.

Some would call that Westernizing them, and frown upon it; saying they wanted an Asian wife, not a Western one. Well, I brought a Vietnamese and a Filipina back to the states; both earned American citizenship, both held professional jobs, both went back overseas with me, both visited their home countries, both returned to and enjoyed the states; yet neither changed in the way she interacted with me.

I think anyone needs to be able to make friends with the locals to do more than survive anywhere. I know my life was better in every country I have lived when I had local friends. I don’t immerse myself into local society and not have farang friends, but I know my local co-workers, I know my neighbors and their kids, I know the owners and workers of the businesses I patronize, I know the locals I see frequently.

Sure, there are long-term expats in all countries who have immersed themselves into a farang buffer zone and have never had a local friend—same-same the long-term resident Asian women in farangland who have never made a farang friend. Some people can survive like that.

Does she speak the other language, is she educated, has she an outgoing personality? It seems these simple attributes should be part of the qualifying criteria for a gf with whom you can travel.
