Hi a friend of mine who is married and has a daughter with a british passport brought them over on a holiday visa for 6 months , when the visa expired he applyed for a visa in the uk in which he got excepted and now this visa entitles her to work and has a ni number now .am confused ! Can anyone shed any light on this please?

cannot apply for a NI number whilst in the UK on a Visitors Visa, also a Visitors visa in the UK will not be extended to a Settlement visa, she would have to go home, so maybe someone is telling Porky Pies.

No not telling porky pies he paid a 1000 pound for the visa here through the proper guidelines and is now working and entitled to work here

what nationality is he? The correct procedure is that a settlement visa will only be granted in the country where the person is a permanent resident and not a visitor.

sorry do not believe a word of it,

I suggest you find out the truth, Unless of course she came over on a fiancee visa, then after getting married changed to a Settlement visa, then your first post is wrong as she did not have a visitors visa the fiancee visa is the only one that can be changed in the UK for all others she would have to go back to Thailand with a lot of documents.

You're asking people here to shed some light on what you say happened, they can't, it would help if you can let us know in due course as I'm sure many people would be interested.

I suspect that they've made a case round the issue of family life as they have a British child, as Beano says it wouldn't normally happen, though as he also says it could have been a fiancée visa, which would explain it.

Yes i will shed some more light as soon as i see him . But you could be right about the case of a british child and splitting up a family .

Sounds like a settlement visa to me. No visit visa costs that much to come to the UK. Even if it did she wouldn’t be allowed to work.

I think he means they paid about £1000 for her leave to remain in the UK; not for her initial visa.

But if that's what they paid for the initial visa as well, then Beano's assumption that it was a fiance visa rather than a visit one sounds right.

As far as I am aware, even with a British child it is not possible to convert a visit visa into settlement inside the UK; so would be extremely interested to find out how he did it.

No it was a visit visa his daughter at school here with a british passport.when the visit visa was coming to an end (6 months) he applied for a visa here in uk to stay as his daughter at school etc. It cost him about a thousand pound.he had to wait to see if it would be excepted,a couple of weeks later his WIFE got the visa he had to send the same materials ie adress where staying , photos etc. And now she has a ni number and is working .until i see him (week or 2) will find out more and post

As I said she had to return to Thailand for her visa, it was not extended in the UK.

Seems that your posts confused not just me but some others.

If u read above the visit visa was done in bangkok .the visa she has now was done in the uk just as the vist visa was about to finish

It is very, very unusual for a visit visa to be converted to a settlement one within the UK.

It would be really useful to know what type of visa was actually applied for. A standard settlement one based on marriage would not be processed successfully within the UK. One based on the child just might!

I would not accuse anyone of telling porky's but there must be some very specific factors here. It might be of use to others to know more details!

No reason for them to be porkies. I've had a few people ask me to help them with visas here in the UK. When you quiz them about the details you have to get all the details from them with a rack and thumbscrews and that is assuming they can answer the questions at all.

I have never heard of a case where the application was approved within the UK!

I know of someone who did like the OP is saying but eventually they found out her Visa was a fake, she and her son were returned to Thailand and given a 10 year ban, her husband regularly visits them in Thailand.
