BANGKOK: -- A Saraburi man, who confessed to killing a school teacher in her bedroom after she resisted his rape attempt on Friday, was brought to the scene to re-enact the crime this afternoon. A mob of angry locals gathered outside the victim’s rented room in Kaeng Khoi district, where she was found dead in her bed, to witness the scene.

Some held signs that the alleged murderer should receive a death sentence as seen in the live video by Khaosod.

Chatri Ruamsoongnern, 27, was arrested yesterday after he confessed during questioning to killing Chularat Towattana, a 26-year-old teacher, because she resisted his rape attempt, police said.

Was this re-enactment absolutely necessary ?

Highly unlikely but the BIB just can't resist even when their overwhelming need for publicity backfires. Didn't they cancel an earlier attempt fearing problems yet still just had to do it.

I believe in the past other posters have said that sometime back, last year perhaps, it was announced that re-enactments would cease so can anyone clarify ?

If this is the case it would seem that, as with so many orders within the BIB, nobody pays any attention and if these things aren't jumped on from the top displays the usual lack of leadership.

It is so frustrating reading "suspect" after his confession.

The piece of nothing is a murderer.

And yes, he is Thai.

Quite correct.

He confessed to murdering the woman. Thus not "suspect".

"Alleged" murderer.? Not alleged, he has confessed. Thus, surely guilty?

We prefer simplistic emotional responses on this forum, thank you very much.

Im not suggesting in this instance it is the case but the RTP does have a history in making false and contradictory announcements or extracting confessions by unethical methods. Even fabricating evidence to protect hisos and frame the innocent.

Yes, this sucks, but, Thai laws stipulates that the suspect is a suspect despite his admission and confession,

as both can be recanted and rescinded by the suspect at any time, he become officially "a murderer"

and deemed to be so following the outcome of the trial and the final judge's verdict that found him to be as such.....

Murderers and kiddie fiddlers should be dispatched off this mortal coil with a quickness, no point in trying to rehabilitate rabid dogs. One behind the ear and send the family the costs.

Confessions aren't actually that good as indicators of guilt. It turns out there are lots of reasons why innocent people confess to things, especially when interrogation methods focus on getting a confession. There's a lot of research about this, if you care to look for it.

100%, A confession is not a guilty plea here with the influence of the "HISO" face at stake! Police do have a reputation of getting a confession if there is a brown envelope at stake!

I thought they banned all these stupid enactments, with the

Police directing the suspect what to do,like a film director,

You are definitely guilty and have to prove YOUR innocence

here, which is not easy with the police holding all the cards.

Parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria or the Yemen will give you the kind of society you crave. Please shut the door on your way out of LOS.

Of course, if you belong to the bleeding heart brigade, you can always opt for turning all rapists and murderers loose into society as they are really good people just having a bad day, in your opinion that is, but not most people believe in just punishment to suit the crime.

How utterly degrading for all concerned. If a re-enactment of this crime was necessary, it could and should have been carried out discreetly. Instead, what we were treated to was a media circus, with a gawping crowd of clowns snapping selfies. Goodness knows what the relatives of this poor young women must have felt as such a disgusting public spectacle.

If this misguided exercise was the forces of law and order attempting to persuade the public of their effectiveness in tackling this horrendous crime, then it was a spectacular failure. The reality is that relatively few men responsible for the Thai nationwide average of a rape every 15 minutes are brought to justice - and sentences are often light.

This appalling situation is unlikely to change so long as the Kingdom's patriarchal culture continues to portray women as little more than playthings for indigenous males with an inbuilt sense of entitlement and a weakness for drugs and alcohol.

Police should have walked away and leave this scum to the people: great cost savings for now and the future.

Whilst I again agree with the majority of posts decrying these idiot reenactments (the KT2 spring to mind), this guy Chatri was released just last year after serving a paltry two year sentence for rape, so although not 100% watertight pretty sure he's guilty as sin and the plods should have let the baying crowd who looked as though they were on a day out ermm.gif , have at him. POS.

Some people confess to crimes they haven't committed so 'ALLEGED'is OK for me.

The accused needs to be tried in court but we have witnessed the sad court process at work.

The tragedy is that both the victim and her predator are good looking people and the blame should also apply to Thai society at large. Too many rapists it seems to me with lack of understanding that they did something wrong. They treat woman as an object of their desire and as such they expect total cooperation in their twisted heads. We heard that many times. In the west we have psychopaths, pedofiles and sociopaths. All lack of emotions, so all their crimes are cold calculated ones. In Thailand all is about an impulse/ad hoc and lack of control of their sexual urges, mostly. Education in secondary schools might bring some positive results.

As I said, find a region under Sharia law and you will find your heart's desire. Its never going to be that way here so if you really want what you say you want, look to radical Islam!

Police reenactment just means not having to do any work and a photo op. Just a bunch of narcissists with their toy medals.

Even worse, my close Thai friends tell me that often the 'suspect' is told what to do and what to say.
