Although this is totally unrelated to this topic I thought I would post it anyway.

I remember one time I was going down to stay with a friend who lived in Las Vegas for 6 months. I'm Canadian and at the time was allowed to enter the US for a total duration of 6 months without a visa. As I approached the Michigan border officer in my suped up 1996 Chevrolet Corvette the officer asked me where I was going and how long I would be staying there. I was 29 at the time and after I told him where I was going and my duration of stay he pointed me to the side for a search.

Two border officers literally tore my car to pieces from to back, inside and out. After about two hours one of them says, ok you can put your car back together. After another few hours reassembling my car I was informed that I wasn't being allowed into the country, no explanation given, just told I was denied entry. No criminal record or nothing but still denied.

I went up to this one immigration officer who was comfortably seated in a chair outside.

I cussed his counterparts up and down to no end.

He quietly said to me:

You have about 5 seconds sir to go back to your car and go home or you're gonna find yourself in our immigration detention centre.

I looked at this big burly black man and said: thank you and have a nice day.

The next day I went to the Buffalo border and the lady asked me where I was going and the duration of stay.

I told her I was going to Las Vegas for 6 months and she said: Enjoy your stay in America.

Just thought I'd share that story.

All the information is out there; no excuses.

  • Countries which get 30 days at Airport and 15 day stamp at land border: Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Brunei, Belgium, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Slovak, Slovenia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and UAE.
How much will I pay for overstaying?

That depends on the number of days you overstayed in Thailand. The minimum charge is 500 baht per day and the maximum is 20,000 baht if you overstayed for 40 or more days

how many days does the UK passport holder get at the land border crossing ,is it 15 days also as not mentioned.

UK is a member of the G7 and they get 30 days coming into Thailand via a Land Border or arriving at Airport.

Completely plausible - agents on both sides of the body can complete a full car search (including disassembling) if there is a suspicion of smuggling (and it is up to you reassemble). I can only think that you either pissed someone off first. You can also be rejected entry -- without any permanent "black mark". I have been rejected entry twice -- once as a kid bicycling around -- and I did not answer the question of why properly (at the same time as being humourous). I was also given the choice at Detroit one time of being sent back or continuing on visa waiver -- I chose to be sent back so I could get the company to work on reworking the letter for immigration (the lady basically said she did she thought I was lying and she did not like the NAFTA agreement - and she was the NAFTA specialist :o ). Since I am unable to express anger - and am always polite regardless it was not that (or maybe that made them suspicious :o ).
