Need more info. Pump make and model and better description of the problem would help.

You could have a leak that is causing the pump to turn off and on constantly even if all the taps are off. The first culprit would be a leaky toilet.

If the pump is rapidly turning off and on as you are using it, it could be waterlogged! To fix that problem the tank on the water pump would need to be drained.

I should have been a bit clearer, sorry for that.

Both answers seem to point in the right direction, pulsing when drawing water for a bit then will run ok after that, if having a shower it will pulse for maybe 30 seconds and then settle down.

It's an easy job to drain the tank, the exact method varies by pump but something like this;-

  1. Turn off water supply to pump
  2. Turn off power
  3. Turn on a tap to drain any remaining pressure
  4. Remove the drain from the tank (some also have an air inlet valve, some you have to unscrew and shake to get the water out).
  5. Put it all back together
  6. Turn on water
  7. Turn on power
  8. Test :)

Does your water pump look like this?

If so, that small pressure tank on the right side of the photo is filled with nitrogen. Unscrew it from its base and shake the water out and replace. What ever you do, DO NOT loosen the little screw on the top of the tank; if you do you will lose all of the nitrogen and will have to replace the tank or somehow get it refilled.

You will also have to check your house for leaky water faucets, including the loo.

I will be taking a look at it today and will let you know.

Checked for leaks everywhere and all is ok.

It just pulses for maybe thirty seconds or so when you turn on a tap or the shower etc and then settles down.

We had a hunting problem with one of our mitsubishi pumps. Problem was solved by replacing the sticky solenoid.

The solenoid is the middle item as you look from the right in Utleys pic. The solenoid cost around B200 from memory.

something to consider if all else fails.

It could be a bit of air gaining access to the inlet side of the pump, this would cause it to "pulse" for a short period while it clears the air -- do you see it at the outlet

ie, the shower or at one of the taps.
