Hi all, I bought Nissan Almera in 2012, I had regular service checks until last month, then my car had a gearbox problem this week. They ask for 40.000 baht. Is it normal?

thanks for the answers, of course I dont expect to get it repaired for free forever, but why am I paying nearly one-tenth of cars value for such a problem in just 3 years? They only tell me warranty is over

Because of the new technology manufacturers will recoup their development costs this way as they can't put the full amount on new cars it would scare the punters away , cars with it will become worthless after about 10/15 years as the punters that bought that age of vehicle will steer well clear of them because their income will not have increased to match the cost of repairs they will buy older simple ones that are cheaper to keep going.

The OP doesn't say how many klm's the car has done, or if it's manual or auto. Even though the car is just out of warranty, I'd be a little pissed to have to spend 40,000 baht on gearbox repair after 3 years, unless it's been badly abused in someway.

Did you expect Nissan to repair your car for free for ever?

May be guy from US..

In US CVT warranty 120k miles or 10 years;)

In Europe and even in Russia Nissan

extended CVT warranty of up to 150k km, even the vehicle for more than three years .

But its Thailand.

I live in TH, my car is about 40k km, about 3,5 years.

So you guys mean it is normal? That I have to pay 40k in the end

Sounds early to be needing a new gearbox but you can be unlucky. You can pay or you can take the car to a different dealer or mechanic for a second opinion, otherwise what else are you expecting people suggest. It's outside the warranty period so most unlikely Nissan are going to help you. I had a damaged CV joint in my car which has low mileage. Checked two different places, same diagnosis. Replaced and problem solved. Should never have needed replacing so early but it did and nothing I could do but pay-up.

no, it's not.

you got the arse card.

i do own an almera myself.

in other countries cars come with 5 year/150k warranties. i own several kia's in australia which have performed faultlessly past their 5 years warranty period.

i guess you just ended up with a lemon.

You need to pay up in order to sell the car and get whatever money you can out of it. They got you by the balls!! shock1.gif

Next time, don't buy a Nissan in Thailand.

Write it off as an expensive learning experience and move on.
