Cop who says he bribed other cop surprised to find himself under investigation

Featured Replies

"Both men have admitted to the crime of bribery, however the situation is not clear" The consequence is both men remain on active duty.

Unbelieveable, they have told them what happened, told them where the money was exchanged and told them what the expected outcome was due to be,, both admitted it but the police are not clear on the situation.

This stinks, absolutely stinks. I hope the PM sticks by his word, makes an example of them both and sends a message right through the police force that this stops or you go to jail.

1. And as long as it does continue the RTP continues to be manned, including at the top, by incapable, unfocused and immoral people.

2. So much for the previous specific statements of many senior police that 'paying for promotions in the RTP does not happen'.

Never occurs to them to transfer a guy like this to a prison, for example?

Trust me, we are Thai!

Nope, lest it happen to them.

3. The 2 cops now in the spotlight are both quite senior, it seems to me this is very likely just one incident in many many such incidents.

4. The one who spoke out is now surprised at the overall reaction. Seems to me he's saying 'but I spoke up, so how am I guilty of anything'.

Seems to me this shows:

- He is unaware of the law.

- He is unaware of the big picture of how and why there are such laws and the real processes of the law.

- He thinks 'it's OK if you don't get caught'. But if you do you should attract no negatives if you speak up. Strange thinking, the thinking of

people who are incapable of conceptual and insightful thought, and especially at an advanced level. And this is the level of the RTP who

should be more worldly and totally capable of advanced interpretation of why there are such laws. They aren't.

IMHO total and absolute reform of the RTP is the only solution.

Under Junta rules, as demonstrated by the Rajhabakti Corruption Park affair, all DI Chanintat needs to do is return the money to DI Chanchai, minus legitimate expenses, and the whole mess ceases to be corruption and can be forgotten about. Thats how it works, PM, isn't it?

"The police chiefs in charge of the investigation said although Chanchai and Chanintat have confessed to the bribery deal, they won’t outright condemn their actions"

Of course they won't condemn what is normal police practice.

It's not only police practice,it's with almost all higher government jobs.Boss of my ex,paid about 1 million Baht to get a job as boss of some veterinary livestock department[issuing certificates for farms]..Within 3months he bought new house, new isuzu truck, phones computer, etc. But he is a nice guy, farms and companies can choose for one time payment[1million up]or monthly payment. The smaller staff from this department get 3000-4000baht per month, and boss is inviting them often for dinner. Some farms or companies didn't want to pay, result was they didn't get any certificates anymore. So the farms and companies complained in BKK at agri ministry.Unfortunately the people who should follow up those complains are involved in the bribe scheme. So in the end the farms and companies had to pay plus a bonus for complaining, failed state

Great Expectations

It is reported that Pol Capt Charnchai "confessed" to handing ฿700,000 to Pol Capt Chanintat Ratchinitrai in order to secure a promotion from Deputy Inspector to full Inspector.

Consider this:

  1. He earns a Police Captain's salary, but he had a lazy ฿700,000 (just over $20,000 US) available.
  2. If the report is correct, he was prepare to invest this amount of money to move up only one pay level (A Thai Police Inspector is either a Police Major or Police Captain).

Had he achieved the new rank, one can only imagine how he was planning to recover his investment (but, that will not be part of the investigation).

It should also put the spotlight on how other RTP senior officers line up for their "promotions"!

I'm also suprise he is underived investigation... in this country. Quick buy a new desk... a transfer is underway.

The only reason why he is surprised is he thinks he has done nothing wrong. Standard

operating procedure for securing rank advancement. whistling.gif

Exactly, and why? How on earth is he still in law enforcement position (inactive or not)?

This is the problem with the attitude here, they don't see corruption as others see it. It is just part of everyday life, even in the Policeforce so they don't see it is damaging or serious enough to criminally prosecute both policeman.

I have to say, despite me thinking nothing much would happen i was hoping with all the press coverage that they would make an example of them. Naive of me I know but to me they have lost the opportunity to benchmark the intolerance of corruption within the police.

Very sad and disappointing.

Given corruption is so rife that money buys police positions, one must imagine the imminence damage this is doing to the country.

If a police captain takes bribes, why should any citizen bother not participating in corruption?

Careful Prayuth is very angry. Oh, that was yesterday pissing in the wind and for press consumption statement. Today, it's business as usual for the RTP. The uniforms will continue to screw Thailand up.

"....he was prepare to invest this amount of money to move up only one pay level"

No, he was paying to move up to have access to fatter brown envelopes. The pay they get from government is irrelevant, hardly enough to pay off decent mia noi. The payment is an investment towards riches from higher level of corruption that would cover bribe plus much more over time. They may be crooked and incompetent, but when it comes to "extra vocational remuneration", they are champs.

"Upset at the perceived betrayal, Chanchai then filed a bribery charge against Chanintat, only to learn he could also be considered guilty of the crime."

This guy takes "stupid" to a whole other level. Corruption is so ingrained in this society that if morality was this guys ass, he couldn't find it with either of his two hands.

And the scary thing is this Guy, I believe is a Capt in the Royal Thai Police!blink.png

this matter came to light because of a deal having gone bad.

a lot goes on under the surface and no one bothers

until the situation comes out in the open.

Paying money is how the thai's get any government job.

This is a practice that does not ensure the best candidate succeeds.

....are they waiting to see what is put on the table....or what....???

Interesting... I wonder if he borrowed the money from a loan shark.

A cop that does not know the law,no surprize there,it takes 2 to bribe.

regards Worgeordie

Exactly, but what do you expect when achieving a high ranking is all about paying money not about your ability or talent as a police officer enforcing the law.

Corruption is so rampant they have lost the ability to distinguish right from wrong.

For a policeman to not know that he is guilty of corruption in this case is staggering and beyond belief.

Corruption going Free Again,,,They should have been Sacked ,Fined,And put in Jail,,What an Hopeless Law enforcement,,,(Non Existing)

Careful Prayuth is very angry. Oh, that was yesterday pissing in the wind and for press consumption statement. Today, it's business as usual for the RTP. The uniforms will continue to screw Thailand up.

Prayuth is the one who said"RTP no need a change"that says all how serious he is about corruption

of course the cop being investigated is surprised, its an every day occurance,

That money was intended for school and other educations that are necessary to get to the higher rank tongue.png

I hope he doesnt read this, perhaps his lawyers would take this idea

Edited by sead

r u surprised at how clueless the RTP r of their own laws?

Good news that we actually read about it in Thai media. Maybe next time they have learned a lesson.

Not me mistel, not me! Solly, solly ..

how much they get on that inactive post ?

or how much does a high ranking police officer get ?

in my moo baan, there is one policeman / officer

12 million baht home, 4 expensive cars in the garage (porche, bmw, mercedes, ...)

you think that is earned on an honest salary ?
