So a report is made that she is on the list for ban substances, now after a retest of a more comprehensive investigation she is cleared...Ben Johnson lives...

I will wait to see if she does compete or if this is Thai fiction.

You shouldn't be too quick to spray your ignorance around. The report came via Associated Press

"The BWF's doping hearing panel issued a statement Monday ...."

"But the panel found that because administration of the substance was intra-tendinous _ which is not prohibited and did not require a therapeutic use exemption _ ..."

Go May.

PS: The report was also on the World Badminton Federation's website.

Nong May cleared of using illegal substance

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's badminton idol Ratchanok Intanon, or Nong May, has been cleared of suspicions that she had used illegal substance.

At a press conference held at 9 am Monday by the Badminton Association of Thailand and attended by Nong May and her Thai coach, the BAT president Khunying Patama Leeswatrakul, announced that the Badminton World Federation (WBF) has officially informed that Ratchanok Intanon has been cleared of the suspicion, and now she has the right for the Olympic competition in Brazil this year.

Nong May burst in tears after the announcement saying she was happy and thanked every one for giving her support.

She said she was always confident of her innocence, and added from now she would practice harder to win a medal for the country.

Nong May was suspected of using stimulant with suspicions centering on an injection that she had received for a leg injury earlier this year.

According to WBF’s investigation, it determined that her medical staff had followed all the proper procedures for such an injection and she was therefore cleared to compete in upcoming competitions, including next month’s Olympics in Brazil.

World badminton federation clears Ratchanok in doping case

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — The Badminton World Federation has lifted a provisional suspension on 2013 singles world champion Ratchanok Intanon after clearing her of a doping breach, allowing the Thai Olympic medal hopeful to return to competition immediately.

The BWF's doping hearing panel issued a statement Monday saying that world No. 4-ranked Ratchanok's sample from the Thomas and Uber Cup finals in China on May 15 showed traces of the substance triamcinolone acetonide, a glucocorticoid which is prohibited during competition if administered orally, intravenously, intramuscularly or rectally.

But the panel found that because administration of the substance was intra-tendinous — which is not prohibited and did not require a therapeutic use exemption — and was part of an ongoing medical treatment there was no violation committed by the 21-year-old Ratchanok.

The Olympic badminton tournament runs Aug. 11-20.

So a report is made that she is on the list for ban substances, now after a retest of a more comprehensive investigation she is cleared.

She was never on a list of banned substances! A steroid that could be banned depending on how it was administered was detected in her urine but the method of administration and the reason for it being there was all above board. You must be very disappointed but it is all explained very clearly in the link.

Damm. Hopefully she doesn't win a medal anyway.

Why?

steroid, substance user, playing in China, Chinese coach, dress it up as you like, stinks.

You did read the story, yes?

You know the OP here?

The one that says she has been cleared.

Did nothing wrong.

Is innocent of all charges.

You know, the story this thread is about?

It's a shame the initial report was leaked before conclusive testing was complete. The poor girl must have been losing a lot of sleep, and the stress would have surely affected her training and performance. I truly hope she can rise above this and earn a place on the podium wai2.gif

These people play all over the world. She happened to be tested in China where she played in a competition.

She has a Thai coach ... not Chinese.

My my we have a bunch of cynical w@nk3rs in this thread. Why are you so quick to put down someone who has reached the top of her sport here in Thailand without due consideration of the facts. Not everyone in sport is a dope head you know. Everything she did was above board and legal. Now she can compete in Rio and hopefully do Thailand proud.

Just to be clear, she did test positive for a banned substance. There appears to be no question about that fact.

A subsequent investigation seems to have found that the application of the banned substance, sub-tendonuous (vs. oral, injection, rectal, etc., which is unacceptable), is acceptable in certain circumstances.

She was very, very fortunate.

They've (BAT) have been running this girl like a horse since she was 13, so physical breakdown is to be expected

In a statement published Monday, the BWF said Ratchanok tested positive for triamcinolone acetonide, a corticosteroid which is banned in most circumstances.
However if administered directly into a muscle tendon for medical reasons it is allowed under the BWF's rules.
"The panel concluded that because the route of administration of the substance in the medical treatment process was intratendinous -- an authorised administration route -- no violation of the regulations was committed," the BWF said.
Patama Leeswadtrakul, president of the Badminton Association of Thailand, said doctors had been treating Ratchanok for pain in her right hand and back.
"We said it was used honestly to cure her injuries," she told reporters.
She definitely dodged a bullet.

Good girl. If you'd carried on juicing up on roids you would have turned into a man.

I was wondering how many of these totally out of line post would be made. She was would given steriods for a lingering injury that would not respondto treatment a long fron juicing. please become more informed before for posting nonsense

Her manager is Thai, her coach is Chinese, Xie Zhuhua, a top former badminton player too.

Not just in Thailand. She's the youngest WORLD champion in history :)

Ratchanok lost in the round of 16 to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 2:0. She looked a bit 'lost'.

Thailand's Porntip Buranaprasertsuk has advanced to the quarterfinals.
