Labor Ministry prepared to deal with lay-offs in electronic industry

BANGKOK, 20 July 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Labor has been prepared to deal with lay-offs in electronic industry and devise an action plan to assist the laid-off workers.

Labor Ministry permanent secretary Puntharik Samiti said that the current lay-off situation in electronic industry resulted from a decrease in the number of purchase orders, prompting the manufacturers to cut down their workforce.

The Ministry of Labor has set up an operation center to talk to the electronic manufacturers which may be in trouble so that the workers will be informed of the lay-offs in advance.

Affected employees will receive occupational guidelines and access to financial sources. They will be informed of their benefits from Social Security while being unemployed and receive training programs for freelance occupations.

What's the problem? This same Permanent Secretary for Labor ML Puntrik Smiti said just yesterday that there were 38,000-45,000 jobs going begging in Thailand each month. So why can't these lay-offs be soaked up with all those job vacancies out there. The Secretary is just making a big issue of devising an "action plan" to make himself look like a hero and a saviour.

The economy is in the doldrums, military people are brilliant at keeping order, not so good at running a vibrant economy. I suspect most people are holding their breath after the ups and downs of the last few years. It ain't gonna last though.
