Traveling through an Airport wearing Steel toecap safety boots on.

I have never done this. I emigrate in the next few weeks and want to travel with mine on to save weight and space in my suitcase. Will there be any issue at Swampy with this?

Posted

I've done Swampy with toe-tectors on, I had carry-on only (hard hat and hi-viz in the carry-on), remove for x-ray of course but no issues (they were more worried about the hat being a potential weapon).

This was however some years back (maybe 2012) things could well have changed since then.

If you can possibly avoid wearing them then I would, it can't hurt to avoid potential issues.

Yeah i know mate. But, it's the weight and size. they are Timberland Pro and are soooo comfortable. Obviously my new company will provide me with new rigger boots.

I will keep flipflops in my carry on so if there is an issue and i need to ditch them, it's my tough titty.

No problem just remove them at the metal detector. Common footwear for rig pigs.

Cheers mate. I'm a rig pig :D Well was ill i got this new job. We all know what it's like when you get safety boots that are real comfy, and it's always a gamble when you get new ones, they can cripple you.

I were them all the time. No problem. Just have to remove them and put them through xray

Cheers Joey. I've even polished them today :D

or the other option is you can buy very good quality boots with non-metallic caps, then you don't need to take them off.

just ask at work if they allow them, you will find them from most quality boot manufacturers under the "airport friendly" category.

Me too but they are so easy to buy in Thailand sent straight to my door. Really into the Ascent safety boots at the moment try and pick up a pair whenever I'm in Oz. Kevlar toecap instead of steel. Light as and comfy straight out the box. Sell them at Athletes foot as they are rated for running, like wearing sneakers to work.

I thought you had a super good contract that you were talking about, if its so good I cant imagine you did not get some allowance for shipping your stuff.

It's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about. Let the big boys talk and just listen.

You mean grease monkeys ?

In other topics Mr Bear was commenting on teachers and how good a contract he got. So i just assumed he would have gotten an allowance too for shipping his stuff as he has to emigrate.

Personally, I would have just paid extra to have these things shipped and avoid possible problems at the airport. But I am the kind of guy that does not mind to pay a bit more to avoid trouble. I am not going to risk stuff just to save a few baht. But that is a personality trait I just like to avoid risks.

It's hard to imagine...

There is no risk at all, you can fly wearing safety boots, I've done it hundreds of times...

The false info on this thread is alarming

You may want to double check.. most safety shoes today are called steel toed but don't actually have a steel toe they have a composite reinforced toe.. HSE's don't like the steel reinforced plate. That being said.. my boots have traveled on my feet far more miles in the air than your average person so no chance you will get drama for wearing them... just don't do it in the pubs in Australia.

I get 100KG from the company. That will be used when the family come.

Nice try though 6/10 thumbsup.gif

Exactly. This is me getting in the country first and foremost. The family will come in a month or two. I'm in a hotel for the first month giving me time to find a place for us. I am bringing one suitcase with enough clothes to get by with. That includes my own boots.

I get 100kg paid for by the company but that will eb used when the wife and kid come.

yeah i do.,...as i have explained in other replies above.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Boots are very personal in my game. These are good quality and broken in. Nothing worse than having to put on new boots and they cripple you.

There's no risk as gents in my trade have explained in this thread. I will carry flip flops "just incase" i need to ditch my boots.

Stick to "teaching"

You may be asked to remove them and put them through the baggage scanner. I have had the same problem when coming back from Offshore.

It is more of a pain taking them off to walk through he body scanner than anything else. Had the same thing in many countries. You are not hiding anything so just tell the security you r wearing them and do they want to you take them off. Never had a problem anywhere with wearing them.

The reason you have to take them off (if security are doing their job properly) is someone could have a knife or something like that hidden in the boot....

There is no law against boots and never has been, they just need to ensure the metal toe caps are the only thing in them that's setting the metal detector off... :)

Some airports scan every type of shoe, some don't even scan steelcaps....

OK, i can understand that, what type of boots do you wear as i can only get about six months out of mine.

By the time they get comfy, they are shagged and have to be replaced.
