Customs Dept destroys illegal goods seized from Sa Kaeo border

SA KAEO, 26 July 2016 (NNT) – The Customs Department has led the destruction of counterfeit and tax-evaded goods worth a combined 50 million baht in Sa Kaeo province.


Director-General of the Customs Department Kulit Sombatsiri, accompanied by Director of the Customs Office Region 1 Auychai Kultipmontre and related officials, took part in the ceremony to destroy a batch of illegal products confiscated by authorities at the Sa Kaeo customs checkpoint over the past three months.

The products, which were cut and sliced into pieces with scissors and knives, included handbags, clothing and shoes, with a total market value of 50 million baht. The items were impounded for infringement of copyrights and tax evasion.

Mr Kulit said the Customs Department has instructed its officials at all border checkpoints to attach great importance to the suppression of illicit goods in a bid to protect the society, create fairness in tax collection and ensure respect for copyrights.

50 million baht worth of contraband goods torched in Aranyaprathet

ARANYAPRATHET: -- Customs director-general Kulis Sombatsiri on Monday presided over the ceremonial destruction of 50 million baht worth of fake brandname products seized by customs officials in Aranyaprathet.

Accompanied by Sakaew governor Pakarathorn Thienchai, Colonel Charoenchai Hinthao, deputy commander of Burapha Task Force and senior customs and local officials, Mr Kulis led the destruction of the counterfeit products by using scissors to cut some of the products.

The bulk of more than 100,000 pieces of fake brandname products which include sport shoes, hand bags, glasses, garments and blankets were later transported to an incinerator in the municipal area to be burned.

The customs chief said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha had instructed customs officials and security units along the Thai-Cambodian border to crack down on the smuggling of fake brandname products from Cambodia.
