PHUKET: -- A 70-year-old Chinese tourist has died after being swept onto rocks by strong waves at Kata Beach yesterday afternoon (July 26).

Police were notified of the incident at 2pmm, but by the time police arrived with Ruamjai rescue workers, the man, identified as Su Fuhai from Beijing, was unresponsive on the beach.

“Witnesses told police that they saw the man swimming near the rocks, then a huge wave hit him and he disappeared into the water,” said Maj Patiwat Yodkwan of the Karon Police.

Chinese keep getting killed here. Good thing there are of many of them, there is still enough to keep tourism going here.

Sorry, I am not impressed with your lack of compassion.

Yes, a "lack of compassion," … what all considered concerning Chinese 'tourist,' and their lack of consideration for Thai traditions and people, I have no compassion!

Water is a factor in a disproportionate number of avoidable Chinese tourist deaths in Thailand. Whilst the lack of virtually all basic safety procedures in Thailand is a major factor, I believe the number would be significantly reduced if it were not for the swimming antics and ridiculous mythology around it of Chairman Mao which all Chinese have to learn.

"Good thing there are of many of them, there is still enough to keep tourism going here." - they said that about the western tourists coming here. Where are they now????

"Where are they now?"

Swimming is dangerous, plenty of people of all nationalities dying in the water, and not just in Thailand.

The only sure way to avoid dying in water, is to never get in.

Sympathy for the family, holidays are supposed to be happy events.

Not so much sympathy for the old guy, he should have known better, but he had a good run, he was on holiday and the end was quick.

Lots of worse ways to go.

"Swimming is dangerous"

Absolute nonsense statement.

Swimming is NOT dangerous!
