Two things that are none of my business as a Non O, for 12 years !

(1) Why do they want so many Senators, US where I come from has 100 and population is over 323 million, with 50 States ? 250 Appointed, how many do they want ?

(2) What is with Appointed Senators ? How do you call yourself a Democracy with appointed political lackeys ?

With all the Consitutions around the World, why pick the best and modify slightly to meet particular needs for Thailand. Like, The Wheel has already been invented!!

Ask Canada. They have appointed senators to. So in a way Thailand has picked a certain aspect from that democracy and added it to their constitution.

In Canada, Senators are proposed by the elected PM..... :)

Abhisit has at least ONE of the qualities that should be mandatory for all holders of political office - he was educated abroad.

Hard to see how a party with the name "democrats" could be in favour of the charter. Give who he normally speaks for this may be a sign that the elite is not happy with the way things are going on this and hopefully that PC-Os days as PM are numbered. The abdication predicted in some quarters clearly did not happen. Not today at least.

there is going to be an appointed non elected 250 person council to run the country?

dam those guys are gonna become very rich.

even the all power full general with the absolute powers of article 44 have not been able to stop corruption in thailand. wonder if i can get a work permit to sit on that council.

Yes, apparently they're going to call it the House of Lords.

Yes true, but you need to be very rich to get there in the first place, so in fact they are going to become very richer.

The army will elect who they deem fit to run the country - and that will always be a yellow vote... however this time they will ensure the reds do not get back in, the election has already been determined... and the failed rice scheme may have swayed a lot of the NE votes - however all it takes is a few 500 baht notes and some pied piper tactics in the NE you have won the majority of an election. This is something the yellows have constantly sucked at.

Do you honesty think that receiving a 500 baht note would convince a red or yellow supporter to change his allegiance by voting for the other side? You know as well as I do that he'll say "Thank you very much" , then vote for the party of his conscience. Do you not also think that the bribes from each side cancel each other out, so why bother?

Why is it that so many overlook the "draft" aspect? Given that the influences of many who were likely to be horrified at the initial draft because of the impact would have been drastic has resulted in a very compromised offering.

And this offering which the mainstream took little effort to actually comprehend but instead have waited apathetically for the result of an mainstream apathetic vote may now begin to understand some of the core implications as they are voiced in public.

Abhisit 's opinion may seem undemocratic at first thought. However under the proposal of the draft there is no limitation on appeal which allows the potential to delay and defy proper and correct judicial rulings indefinately. Perhaps his objective is to include provision for a balanced provision which has been denied due to factional opposition.

It is not apparent Abhisit has any major objections to this draft othet than this very valid issue.

Isn't it ilegal to publically criticise the draft, it deemed the ill informed misleading the public. He better pack his toothbrush

Only if you are poor or a redshirt. Abi is an Oxford-educated toff, so bullet-proof.
