BANGKOK: -- A veritable army of police, soldiers and transport officials 250 strong swooped on minivans operating out of the Chatujak area Thursday.

Acting on orders from new metropolitan police commissioner Sanit Mahathavorn the crackdown team made searches and tested for alcohol and drugs in five separate parts of the northern Bangkok district including the bus station, BTS station and Kamphaeng Phet Roads 2 and 3, reported Daily News.

They found 8 drivers who had broken the law and took a number of items into evidence including ten knives and an axe. Two Ya Ba tablets were seized and a quantity of krathom leaves.

Some drivers claimed that the seized hardware were not weapons but for use in accidents and breaking windows in emergencies.

Yes and the Yaba and krathom were for medicinal purposes in case of an accident also.

Some drivers claimed that the seized hardware were not weapons but for use in accidents

To put an innocent person out of their misery after mowing them down jumping the lights at a pedestrian crossing?

Are the penalties worth the effort expended to arrest these idiots?

Wow and only 8 drivers doing wrong. if any Fines, would never recoup the cost of this operation. a new Hub of over the top forces ?

the fact that they are trying to make it safer for the passengers seems to be forgotten in the rush for some to have a whinge. These drivers are responsible for many road deaths, if they can thin the herd and remove the ones doing drugs etc while driving it will be the passengers that benefit. If they can save lives then the amount spent raiding these vans is more than accounted for.

I am surprised that their favourite weapon was not found "Long Sword"

a very relevant point.

alongside this enforcement, there should be an overhaul of

the punishment system, in absence of which the vicious cycle of

catching offenders and them repeating will perpetuate.

the good news is that haul this time is substantially

lesser than that at victory monument raid.

still the dangerous weapons are undesirable.

provide options with approved safety equipment.

On the other side of the coin, having driven a taxi at night in Australia before the "cages"

I do not blame them for carrying something to defend themselves with, but drug usage is not to be tolerated

So, were those charged allowed to continue to drive?

You are angry because the did not find a sufficient arsenal of weapons?

Seriously?

You would rather they found some explosive devices and a firearms to make the operation worthwhile?

What does it actually take for a TVF member not to find fault with and complain about Thailand?

Exactly.

If a search of my vehicles back home were ever performed there would be discovered a firearm, a single jack hammer, a serrated blade knife for cutting seatbelts. A couple of flashlights, a headlamp, a bright, reflective flourescent emergency services jacket, etc..

All tools to assist in the event of an accident or event, not to create one.

Yes that is what I meant...... other Countries have transport officials and they ride all the different busses all the time, no announcement they just wait at bus stops with other passengers, after there inspection they get off and catch another bus and so on all day...
