NLA starts impeachment process against Pracha Prasopdee



BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly on Thursday launched an impeachment process against former deputy interior minister Pracha Prasopdee accused by the National Anti-Corruption Commission of illegal interference in the affairs of the board of the Marketing Organisation of the Interior Ministry.

In opening the impeachment process, Ms Supa Piyachitti, a member of the NACC, told the assembly that the case stemmed from complaints against Mr Teetouch Suksa-ard, director of the Marketing Organisation, accusing of involvement in price collusion concerning the renovation of the Thai-style building of the office of the Marketing Organisation.

An investigation was launched and it was agreed at a meeting of the organization that Mr Teetouch should be fired, said Ms Supa who, however, adding that Mr Pracha then stepped in by asking the vice chairman of the Marketing Organisation to put off a meeting to consider penalties against Mr Teetouch.

The board meeting was finally held and Teetouch was fired, said Ms Supa, adding, however, that Mr Pracha was furious and ordered the scrapping of Teetouch’s dismissal decision and the removal of four board members.

Pracha, however, denied the accusations while challenging the NACC’s impeachment, claiming that there was no complaint for his impeachment from the beginning and, therefore, there was no case against him.

He denied that he interfered with the affairs of the Marketing Organisation board.
