Anyone know of a really good site, australian centred and free .... child needs for family tree research ...all ones tried crap or have to pay.

If you can think of an ancestor as a starting point I have found the Australian Government Archives to be a brilliant source. 

I can't remember their search website but you can Google it, or I can look it up and paste a link.

I got heaps of free info from them. You can pay a small fee for complete documents if you like.
