BANGKOK: -- A 65 year old taxi driver chased a tour bus from Pak Chong to Bangkok early this morning after he was attacked  with a knife.

Wiradech Tanwiset said he had been driving back to the city when the tour bus cut in front of him and caused considerable damage reported Thairath

They stopped to discuss the matter but the tour bus driver produced a large knife and cut him from ear to chin before racing off.

Wiradech gave chase but had lost a lot of blood and when he was in the Lak Si area he gave up and was treated at a gas station before being admitted to hospital.

Por TeckTung foundation workers called to a PTT station near the Lak Si intersection found Wiradech covered in blood. He had a five inch gash from his left ear to his chin.

He said that he had been driving his taxi back from Chaiyaphum when he was hit by the tour bus from the Phu Kradung Tour company.

A wing mirror was almost ripped off then the hood sprung up smashing his windscreen.

He caught up and both vehicles stopped to discuss the matter. But the tour bus driver went to get a foot long knife and slashed him in the face before fleeing.

Wiradech gave chase but eventually stopped for gas in Bangkok and started feeling faint. An attendant called the foundation.

Police are investigating the incident. They said that when the taxi driver is sufficiently recovered they will decide which police district will proceed with the matter.

Ridiculous violence. There is so much violence and crime going on in Thailand. Where are all the criminals put?

Sounds like quite a heated discussion...

Take your time, boys. There's only a lunatic with a big knife driving around Bangkok.

By looks of it the vehicle seems as though there has been previous damage and the hood might not even have been bolted on properly.........not even in the picture.

he has already told them where it happened so what are they really waiting for

it takes time to trace the errant driver off the bus who might have fled ny now for all you know.

and we thought the mini van drivers were the only people carrying dangerous weapons.

looks it is a serious problem with drivers in thailand. carrying some sort of weapon for self defence does make some sense but it was used for a vicious attack on another road user. causing hurt is a serious offence and such drivers must be brought to book swiftly. the question of their drivers licence should also be considered.

"He said that he had been driving his taxi back from Chaiyaphum ...."

Take a good look at this vehicle. Red paint on the doors, silver on the front fenders and roof. Did the hood just fly off its hinges? This might be an old taxi retired from the fleet. No  "TAXI" roof light. There are details here that make this story questionable. The car is a mess.

According to the Thairath article, the initial collision actually took place at 1:00 am in Korat. The taxi driver's windscreen and bonnet were smashed so he left them behind and gave chase in what remained of the vehicle. A short while later while still in Korat, the tour bus driver got out, along with a male and female employee of the bus and the tour bus driver slashed him with a 12" knife, then fled.
The taxi driver gave chase for 100 miles to BKK but when he got to Vibhavadi Rangsit Road in BKK he began to run out of petrol so pulled into a petrol station to fill up. It was at that point he began to feel dizzy so the chase ended and help was sought for his injuries.
Investigating officer Police Captain Rakkian Pathumwan from Thung Song Hong Police Station in BKK said the actual incident occurred in Korat's Pak Chong district so he is only able to record the incident in the station's log book. Further investigation of the case must be carried out by the relevant police station back in Korat.

I think they are building some prisons from old shipping containers~no really

The only way that all this violence can be reduced is by handing out meaningful sentences to all those involved.  Regardless of blame -or who said what to whom,  with the taxi and the bus, the bus driver caused grevious bodily harm, and as well as paying  compensation should serve a minimum 5 year sentence...no remission.

The bus driver was 90% certainly on Yaba to keep awake and after looking at the state of the "taxi??????" (Thanks Ratcatcher) perhaps the driver of that also, but that is another matter What else so neatly explains all these temper rages other than amphetamines which are so clearly identified as involved in these exact same types of cases overseas. Ya (medicine) Ba (crazy) Says it all, doesn't it?  I'll also bet that many of these same crazed people have friends and family who say it is out of character or that "he only started acting like this since the few months" or since he became a bus/taxi/mini-van driver.

Lots of things should happen or be done, problem this is Thailand with a police force that is considered a criminal organization by many Western governments, God forbid we ex pats would ever consider such a thing.
