I have searched a few threads and online stores and there seems to be a distinct lack of dishawashers for sale in Thailand. I have seen 4 for sale on Homepro's website.

I am guessing like standalone cookers there isnt the demand here hence why there are so few. Does anyone know where others can be sourced? It seems like a stright forward choice betwenen Siemens or Hotpoint or Electrolux in which case Siemens!

They have an offer on a Siemens model on Homepro that it looks like I will be going with, due to lack of choice anywhere else. Are there any non-online shops perhaps that offer a wider range? I seem to recall a very limited choice in Baan and Beyond, Niyom Planet and Siam TV from memory when I was looking at washing machines, fridges, etc, etc...

Lazada lists only one model of dish washing machine.  In my visits to Siam TV and Power Buy, I've only seen one or two models of dish washing machines on display.  They're just not popular here.  Most people I know who have them don't use them often because their maids or wives would rather wash dishes the traditional way.  Dishes and glasses last longer when washed the traditional way, too.

My wife was quite happy washing dishes by hand, however, she developed an allergic reaction to the Sunlight washing up liquid, so I said I would buy her a dishwasher.

I found that HomePro had many on their on-line shop site, however most were out of stock.

We went to SiamTV and they had two in stock, I can't remember the name of the other model, but we bought the Siemens stand alone model.

She has since found that she can tolerate the detergent used for cleaning baby bottles, so the dishwasher is only used intermittently.

NancyL...you are correct, however, using only cold water does leave a greasy film on dishes and particularly glasses. So the occasional wash in the dishwasher in beneficial.

Siam TV has the best selection as far as I know, PowerBuy a few and Baan and Beyond a couple more.  Siemens on promotion for 19500 a couple of weeks back - we have one and it works fine although I did just have to have a part replaced out of warranty which was quite pricey.

HomePro sells Thai manufactured powder, rinse aid and salt at about half the price of Finish which is extortionate.

Dishes and glasses last longer when washed the traditional way, too.  HUH???, I have never pulled out a broken glass or dish from any of my dishwashers, but my Housekeeper sure has left me a good number of them. That is the ones she has washed by hand.

Dishes and glasses properly & carefully washed by hand last much longer than those put into a machine, where they're bounced and jostled against the tongs that hold the dishes in place.  Plus, the machine detergents are harsher than the hand-washing detergents.

Have an allergy to dish detergent -- wear lined rubber gloves.  Greasy film on the dishes?  Who in their right mind washes dishes in cold water anyway?  Until we installed an under-the-sink heater for the kitchen sink, we'd heat up water in a kettle and pour it into the dish pan.  First into the dish pan -- the glasses.  Then the cutlery.  Then the dishes and finally the pots and pans.  Another dish pan held clean hot water for rinsing.  A final tap water rinse to remove any remaining soap.

An under-the-sink hot water heater for the tap is much, much cheaper than a dish washing machine and gets the water VERY hot.  Scalding hot.

Dish washers use highly alkaline detergents which attack glass, resulting in dulling. Maybe you should change your housekeeper.

Only more than 60 million Thai people...

I recently bought an Electrolux.  If you look at the major stores like PowerBuy, HomePro you probably have a choice of 30 different models from 18,000 to 50,000.

First are you crazy or are you lazy and spoiling yourself or misses!  The main thing when it breaks down it will take a while for the parts.  But of course the it's your money.

For I second I thought you must have found the one thing Google did not have.  Guess not.

I mentioned I searched a few threads and when I do that I always use google because their search engine is far superior to thaivisas. I got the sane results you did bar my new thread. Said threads I read and as these were 3 years or more old and archived I started a new thread. Already checked out a few online stores including lazada, powerbuy and homepro and then with no luck decided to post and hopefully some TV member would be able to help.

BTW I have many things google doesnt have, including a sense of humour. Not so sure about you though based on your highly witty response but hey I could be wrong ?

You have one, Mrs Stament.

Stop spoiling her :D

Just think its more hygenic and less hassle. Also advised that it uses less water. Save water, save life Paul. Don't you have a machine in NZ?

Lazy yes? Crazy perhaps? Spoiling myself or my wife??? Seriously???

If it breaks down out of warranty and I feel its not worth repairing I will just get my wife to buy me another?  Not an issue for this crazy, lazy, spoilt fool ?

Then... why not go for the ultimate in lazy, crazy and spoiled. Buy TWO dishwashing machines; one for the dirty dishes and one for the clean dishes.

Alternate usage - when one dishwasher is full of dirty dishes, run it so that it becomes the clean dishes. The other machine that previously held the clean dishes will be empty and ready to receive dirty dishes.

You can rip out your kitchen cabinets and save space / make space for the extra machine.

Genius! Why didn't I think of that?. But hey why stop at 2 dishwashers? 2 washing machines? 3 dishwashers?

Crazy is as crazy does.....

If you actually read the articles telling you how dishwashing machines are more "green" than handwashing, they'll tell you it's only if you don't pre-rinse dishes before putting them in the machine, only if you run the machine with a full load, only if you run the machine on the shortest cycles, without heated dry.  I don't know about you, but back when I actually had a dishwashing machine in the U.S., it was basically a "dirty dish storage cabinet" and the standard practice was the rinse the dishes, shove them out of sight into the dishwashing machine during the day and then at night fire up the machine on the longest cycle, complete with heated dry and go to bed being lulled to sleep by the noise of the dishwashing machine and the comfort of knowing that our dishes were being hygienically cleaned and sterilized.

I must confess I havent read all the articles and doubt I will. I am lazy ?

Similar to you in England we used to rinse scrape most of the food off sometimes this required a quick rinse if something sticky then as younsaid turn it on overnight unless it was full before.

I was told that with dishwashers and washing machines you shouldnt leave them for long periods without use.  No idea if thats true but I plan to take it on board and use ours regularly ? when we get it!

Change of subject monentarily Nancy. I didn't get around to breakfast on my last trip but am looking fwd to it on my return if its on when I am there.

2 washing machines?

Wouldn't work, because the clean clothes would be wet and dank. Unless of course, you have two dryers. Dryers are even more difficult to find in Thailand than dishwashers.

When you think about it, just need one washing machine and dryer. Take the clean clothes from the dryer, and put the dirty ones in the washing machine.

Of course I would get 2 dryers but hey maybe I just hang them on a washing line and hey presto no need for a dryer. Having 2 washing machines should mean I am covered should one break down.

Opal does have a dishwasher, brand name is "Paul", getting on in years but still works well, fingers crossed, however we should think about getting a dog to do the pre-rinse.

One of the most enviroment unfriendly pieces of completely unesscessary equipment there is .Using lots of electricity and gallons of hot water just to wash a few dishes that take less than 5 minutes by hand .
GO GREEN , think of your fellow humans and of your childrens children . Just pay someone 20 baht a day to wash them if you think the work is to hard

I guess if you got it then who am I to bash you!  Go for it!  Go one further,  get yourself a nice young maid and have her do them for you and when the cat is out let your mouse come out to play!

Wow Ive never been described as someone who is frivolous before. Imagine that just by buying a dishwasher I am automatically elevated to the echelons of the HiSo's ?.  Instant gratification and status for me, worth the small price of a dishwasher alone ????

Now get me my damn dishwasher!. ?. I will be sure to invite all the neighboyrs round for afternoon somtam and show tmy dishwasher off ?

I can just see their faces now ??

I guess you just need to be mindful that Opal might trade you in for a newer more attractive model in the future. I think younshould be ok though, reliabile with good brand reputation, bit of a classic one might say.
