Be cautious in the Takieb Hua Hin area if you get involved financially with a Thai Family

Featured Replies

I resided in Thailand full time for a period of three years. I only had one bad experience while residing in Takieb Villlage which is right near Hua Hin. There I was swindled by a Thai Family big time to the value of 27 thousand USA dollars. My advice is do not trust anyone there. The rest of my years there were wonderful as I became street wise after being burned. with a Thai Smile !!! I guess bad experiences allow one to gain knowledge  I believe what Buddha thought in his sutras that if one does bad deeds for one own gain by hurting another  individual one will amass bad carma

50 years of books, internet stories and you still see stories like this. I am amazed. Got to hand it to the Thai's, they can spot a sucker and play it to the hilt.

Was it the daughter ,that took your money with a smile,

that's usually the case, the only good thing to come out

of it,is you will not be caught again,I hope.

regards Worgeordie

If that family amassed 27,000 USD from a gullible farang, then they'll be able to handle a bit of bad karma. A reasonable deal.

How about your advice being not to trust that family that you say, without any details, swindled you?   Did everyone else in the area swindle you also, what makes them so untrustworthy?

Perhaps your belief in what the Buddha said is an indication of your sophistication when it comes to trusting and believing?

I have no problem trusting people.

However when it comes to money there is a golden rule. What's mine is mine and it stays that way. Don't lend money to anyone regardless of whatever guarantees they say they have. All the guarantees in the world don't mean you will ever see a single Baht repaid.

They only want to 'borrow' because they have nothing.

The family betrayed you not the whole village, why even mention the name of the place, villages don't gang up on fallangs to rip them off, sorry but that is just nuts.

This is nothing new but I guess the person in the story is new to Thailand. Should have done better research before moving to Thailand. Would be interesting to know the facts of your story and how did it all happen.

Wait and watch for Part 2...........Coming Soon.

Stupid on so many levels. You got swindled by one family and advice people not to trust thousands of residents who never did you any harm? No wonder you got swindled with that kind of logical thinking.

Not defending the OP but if you think the vast majority of villagers probably not in Takiab but certainly up north where they are a lot poorer would turn down the chance of free money if it means ripping a falang off they would certainly gang up

You are far worse than the OP.

Having lived in a poor village in the north for rather a long time I not naive to any problems that are present here, villages ganging up on people being not among them, many fallangs get done over by their wife and family, it is common occurrence, but the normal reaction from the the rest of the village is to feel shamed by them and they often shun them.

rich farang mentality is very common, but you can't just paint the whole place with a brush stroke...there are many farangs living in villages co-existing with everyone, where local thais have no such thought of getting money from farangs

I have been living in a small village for 12 years now where I am the only permanent farang and to my knowledge nobody around here has tried to rip me off. I have a few Thai friends and jnow a lot more and don't have any problems.

Perhaps it is just me and my attitude that works.

Children shouldn't play with matches.

OP, go home where you'll be safer.

Takiab is hardly a village, it's back to back commercial buildings, houses, condos and hotels from the end of Takiab all the way right into Hua Hin.

It used to be a small village a long time ago but those days are long gone. Hua Hin swallowed it up years back.
