PM calls approved charter “People’s Constitution”

Thammarat Thadaphrom

BANGKOK, 13 August 2016 (NNT) - The Thai Premier has given a name to the draft constitution which was recently approved by the majority of Thai people, calling it the “People’s Constitution”.

Following a successful and peaceful referendum last week, Prime Minister Gen Prayut Cha-o-cha offered his thanks to every voter who came out to exercise their rights while calling on all sides to respect the people’s decision.

He said he would like to call the draft charter the People’s Constitution as nearly 60 percent of the population came out to vote.

He went on to say that the referendum had reunited the country and brought back a sense of patriotism, adding that the charter referendum echoed the true desire of the people who wanted positive changes.

Since it took office in 2014, the Prime Minister said the government had laid down the required foundations, both tangible and intangible for Thailand, by developing the country’s infrastructure and instilling a mentality of conscientiousness through family, religion, and education.

An utter sociopath, and bona fide cretin to boot. Just how far his head must be up inside his rectum to come out with such farcical statements in public is frightening.

The constitution got panned by almost any person who knows anything about politics, and the climate around the referendum process itself was something straight out of the mafia handbook.

An unadulterated disgrace :bah:

The audacity of this guy is pretty amazing. It is as far removed from a "people's constitution" than it could possibly get.

No input from the people has been considered, the people weren't allowed to debate, let alone campaign. A draconian referendum law was deemed necessary in wich people could go to jail for up to ten years, just by talking about it in the wrong way.

Nobody but a few lost souls are buying this.

"He said he would like to call the draft charter the People’s Constitution as nearly 60 percent of the population came out to vote. He went on to say that the referendum had reunited the country ."

Maybe "nearly" 60% did vote, but only a minority of the total population of the country actually voted "yes" and many of those people voted out of fear and intimidation having no idea what the charter is about or what it entails.

And the country is still divided as ever it was,  there has been zero reconciliation.

Yes, poor families are overburdened with debt, monks do as they please and education is non existent.

Then there is all that money being wasted on infrastructure projects such as a  few new roads, a high speed train to nowhere, yet more stinky/dirty coal power stations, new weapons for the government,  giving out loans to anyone most of which will never be repaid(Thai banks are already struggling with thousands of bad debts), etc.

Then they are messing with the farmers, letting exports slide, still producing low end products that the world no longer requires, trying to make tourism the number one earner for the country, frighting most investors away, keeping the baht too high making the place expensive and unattractive to investors,  turning tourists into criminals(sim card tracking), keeping the people suppressed by the use of harsh laws, and the ever present sight of dozens of police and army in tourist areas which gives a sense of unease, people being constantly monitored by a not so friendly mob in uniform carrying guns.

Depressing every day here. He knows with enough propaganda anything becomes true and glorious in the minds of the Thai people. The schools will brainwash the kids into believing it. I suspect there's going to be some real serious brainwashing going on here over the next few years if he is able to hang around. He's got a lot of things and people he needs to get the people to believe in and worship.

He didn't say which people the constitution was for.  His people love it.

So, 60% of the people who are allowed to vote did actually vote.

From this 60% actually 60% voted YES.

This makes 36% of the electorate !

That's not a majority at all !!!

This means that 64% of the electorate does NOT agree.

Not voting is also a right as when there is nothing to vote for it makes no sense to vote.

[Hopefully people who always talk about "democracy' understand this at one point in time !

... not voting is a valid option and probably the only option for the people to take the power back to the people

by not allowing governments to call themselves legitimately elected from a majority of the people !!!]

Their brains are too small to 'wash'. Quick dab with a damp flannel will suffice.

However in LoS the   '  People  '   are more like Battle of Britain pilots,  The Few.

Yes, for the faux-elite the Thai  people are just like those famed flower-pots of recent days: to be filled with dirt, and then blown sky-high.

The PM is totally correct. This is "The People's Constitution". He just hasn't told us which people he is referring to.

Still one thing he has got spot on. Thailand is the land of the copy and he's just copied the name commonly given to the 1997 Constitution of Thailand.

Perhaps 'My Peoples Constitution' might be a better name?

Ahh well good luck to him, he needs it.

The democtratic soldier Prayut doesn't understand the difference between population (every living Thai in Thailand) and electorate (living registered Thai voter). But he can be excused as he's ruled the nation for 26 months without the permission of any electoral vote.

The Chinese must be flattered, with their People's Republic. Birds of feather.

It is an interesting comparison, but the Chinese are tourists where Thais rarely cross their own boarders to see what is on the other side.  Could the Chinese be freer than the Thais mentally, economically; socially and spiritually ?

You wonder how many voted for the charter just so they could see the general toddle off out of public life.  He is far more embarrassing that Yingluck ever was.
