PHUKET: Region 8 Police have released a sketch of a male suspect wanted for detonating a bomb in Patong on Friday morning, which left one motorbike taxi driver injured.

The sketch was released earlier today (August 13) and follows Phuket Governor Chamroen Thipayapongthada and Kathu District Chief Sayan Chanachaiwong paying a visit to Phuket’s sole bomb victim at his house this morning in Patong.

Somboon Kaikaew, 41, a Patong motorcycle taxi driver, suffered an injury to his right arm on Friday morning, when an explosion occurred at the traffic signal control box near the junction of Bangla Road and the beach road in Phuket’s premier tourist town.

Up until this point, speculation has been rife as few details about investigation progress have been released to the public.

In a statement issued to the press this afternoon, Gov Chamroen gave his assurances that authorities are working tirelessly to track down the culprit or culprits behind the attack in Phuket.

The statement reads: “Phuket belongs to everyone, every nationality, every religion…  A world destination, we need to preserve Phuket to be a safety zone for the happiness of everyone, to be a destination of peace where everyone can travel, and return [home] having experienced nature or acquired goods… this or that, but we mustn’t be complacent with what’s happened, and employ measures for the private and public sectors to help serve as the eyes and ears. We will ensure that CCTV surveillance coverage is maintained in precarious areas, and fix where needed. In addition, we will ramp up security forces in populated areas.”

They all look good with the beer goggles on.

good that the sketch has been prepared and the task of tracking down the culprit can begin in earnest. i wonder if mobility is going to be a problem i.e. the  bomber may have have left Phuket and gone into hiding in some laid back place.

...based on what.....guessing...???

....What happened to the 2 suspects they showed on some CCTV film last time...???

Yes...Definitely looks Cambodian or Burmese, or maybe Issarn characteristics. The usual suspects to fit in with who is wanted as the villain.

I find the governors last paragraph reassuring and also the fact that the police are working tirelessly comforting. I wonder who will be the winner of the silver tray this time?

I know that bloke! Looks just like Somchai down the road...

Notwithstanding the fact that the photofit image could depict one of a thousand, if not more, Asian males, the article fails to say who or what (CCTV?) supplied the image.  Is this yet another example of RTP ineptitude at wanting to make a media release just for the sake of being seen to be active in this matter.

I'm wondering just where they got the details, for the sketch, from.. seems like more false info.

I am pleased the RTP now have a look-a-like sketch to help the search for the bombers. I am even more pleased and thanking my stars that it looks nothing like me.

On it... Don't panic... (Emergency police number is 191.)

im sure I saw this guy a couple of dozen times,  at the local village market, last night.

Ridiculous.  I now begin to suspect that there is something far more devious behind these bombings than will ever be reported.

Like a certain bunch of people above the law, usually dressed in uniforms adorned by medals and amulets and with the chief pokemon as their fearless leader?

Sketch looks suspiciously like a Thai Person. Only 68 million people to interview then

Young Asian Male.....That should help!!

Hmmm....young Asian male .....I'm sure I saw one this morning and he was squinting into the sun too

That pic looks like they have just bought it off one of those portrait makers in samui.

Don't know why they have wasted their time with an artists impression of a suspect..?

Everyone knows that the top of Bangla rd is within one of the safe zones, so just a case of checking the CCTV, then get all the culprits rounded up. Is the CCTV from safe zones still streamed live into Kathu Cop shop??

Good job it was before 08.30hrs or may have injured BIBs pulling in Farang bike riders junction of Beach Rd and Bangla for daily Tea money

Post the actual image!  Who knows where this came from?  At least use software to generate a real face.  That could be a high school art project

They just asked one of the Burmese coming accross the border of he would like to be the face of the Burmese community and plastered over the media.

Go home son. Quickly!

Billy Connelly at his roughest ... very very not PC ... I can watch this all day ... listened to him when he was one of the Humble Bums playing a banjo at the Locarno.

Give him a tight fitting uniform, a styled macho cap, some parachute wings and a few medals and he would look like any local policeman. Or even a senior military officer.

Let the dogs loose!
