Australians’ love for a barbecue hit new heights after a man piloted a drone to collect a sausage sandwich from a Bunnings hardware sizzle in Victoria.

A video posted on Facebook by online men’s lifestyle magazine EFTM begins with a man writing on a note: “Please buy a snag and put in bag. Here’s $10.”

A drone then lifts off from a suburban backyard in the town of Sunbury and flies over houses and a four-lane road until it reaches the local Bunnings hardware store.

 

It hovers over a carpark barbecue until a man puts a snag into a container which is connected to the drone by a string.

The pilotless aircraft then flies off, back across busy roads and suburban streets until it finally delivers the sausage sandwich to its pilot who is relaxing in a backyard hot tub.

The video, titled “Bunnings snag via drone” was initially posted on YouTube before being taken down and reposted on Facebook.

While the video proved hugely popular, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority is investigating the flight for breach of drone regulations.

A spokesman for the air safety watchdog said the incident potentially broke rules such as use of a drone within 30 metres of people, flying in the line of sight and travelling over a populous area.

The man faces fines up to $9000 for breaking regulations.
