Just got my 90 day report back from Chiang Mai immigration and they enclosed a piece of paper in English stating the requirements for the postal submission of the report.

I thought that you could mail in the report UP TO 15 days prior to expiry, however, this form now states "AT LEAST 15 DAYS PRIOR".

Anyone else been getting these confusing notes back too?

Yes, the web site says " - Your registered mail must be sent to the Immigration office at least 15 days before the due date of notification. "

This cuts right across the information supplied by the usually very reliable posters (Ubonjoe etc). Can anyone clarify? It had me baffled.

I guess (and only guess!) that you will be OK if the mail arrives a couple of days before due date.

For the first time I did my report by postal mail to Khon Kaen:

Due date: Sunday July 31.

Sent letter by EMS on Friday July 22.

Delivered Monday July 25.

Received return mail on August 10 (sent on August 9)!

Next due date 24 October (so the report was processed on Aug 27).

So also quite late it was done without problem.

As you see there can be quite a time span between processing and returning letter.

(I had stamps for EMS on the return mail, maybe over the top :D)

BTW: the report was processed while I was checked in at a hotel in Pattaya.

Don't take this as a rule. It's just my example.

It is confusing as I was under the impression that it could be submitted UP TO 15 days prior, now this is telling me it MUST be there at least 15 days prior.

Another strange thing is they request a 10 Baht stamp! I go to the post office here and give the guy the return envelope and ask for an ordinary stamp and he puts on a 3 Baht stamp!

You would expect the post office to know the cost better than immigration.

It looks like they sent me this notice as if they are making a point that I did something wrong, but have not said what. The only two things that stick out are the 3 Baht stamp and that it arrived 12 days before due date, anyone else had this in their return mail? It is the first time ever for me and I have been doing this method for years.

One more edit!

It also says the new report will be stamped in relation to the expiration of the expiring one - NOT TRUE, it is stamped the date they process it, it always has been for me, they never add the 90 days to the past expiry.

I cannot see where it says it has to be at the office 15 days before the report date.

I don't know why they say 10 baht postage. Before they changed to 10 baht it was 5 baht. Perhaps they want some extra postage in case it is to heavy for 3 baht.

I put 40 baht on the return envelope so it comes back to me by EMS. I also send them by EMS rather than registered mail.

I just ask the post office to put 10 baht on the envelope. With the way things are lately I don't want to make any waves. Send it 15 days in advance and with a 10 baht return stamp and, whether they're right or wrong, you won't have a problem.

I am not worried about a day or two either side, what I am confused about was that it was stated no less than 7 day and no more than 15, now this is telling me a minimum of 15!

I always send by EMS, and just accept what Postman Pat tells me is the correct price, he never weighs it either, only the total weight of everything for the EMS outbound.

I checked the 90 day validity from my latest form, the original expired August 16th, they registered the new one August 8th and gave me 89 days from then and NOT from the original expiry.

I think if you mailed it so it arrives at immigration 7 days before the report date it would not be a problem. I don't think they will take the time to check to see what day it was sent.

At most offices they start the 90 days from the date the report is done not from the current due date. It is the same for reports in person, online or by mail.

So basically they are sending out duff info by post and on their website?

Nothing these people do ever makes sense, they live in some cloud cuckoo land, how do they feed themselves? How do they know what time to wake up and what time to go to bed? They are a contradiction of humanity, common sense and logic!

Actually, the people in the small office at the side of CM Immigration that deal with the 90 Day Reports are really very polite and helpful. However, if you go into the main office and dare to ask any of the main players if you need to turn up at 1 am and sit in a chair in the car park all night to renew your extension, you will not be pleasantly surprised by their attitude!

Never had a problem myself (to date at any rate) as a result of only sticking a 5 THB stamp on the return envelope.

You are overthinking a simple thing.

You know when your 90 day reports ate due.

As the Thais might say, "You think to much:"

Go on the intenet and do a search for the H.H. Munro (whose pen name is Saki) and find and read the story, called  "The Unrest Cure".

I take it you asked them.  What did they say to you?
