Having a shirt shortened?

Featured Replies

I have some shirts that fit perfectly except that they're a bit too long to wear tucked out. I'm going to Thailand in a week and thought I might just have them shortened there (I've done it myself once before but it was quite time consuming).

Any tips where to go to get this done CHEAP and WITHOUT HASSLE? I'm not keen on going to a tailor - I'm sure they'll do a good job, but I can just imagine the hassle of not actually buying anything there (but I could be wrong). I once had some shorts shortened really cheap in Samui/Chaweng at a "lady with a sewing machine" on a street where I just happened to pass by one day, but the odds of stumbling one of those (especially in Bangkok?) seem low.

So any tips or experiences?

You will see a multitude of old people sitting by the side of the road in Bangkok who will do it for you.

Sewing machines are not to difficult to find. I used to walk past an old dear daily on Sukhumvit even side. BTS Phrom Phong  walk towards Thonglor. Probably less than a 10 minute walk if memory serves me well.

But there are plenty about.

Very much depends on where in Bangkok you'll be.

In the KhaoSan / Banglamphu / Pra Arthit area, there are a number of ladies on the street with their sewing machines.  I remember one very good one near KC Guesthouse, towards the main intersection, and a couple of others in the same general area.

hehe.  many of my shirts used to be like that.  I have noticed that lately due to my sedentary lifestyle and over eating and weight gain, my bulging stomach is taking up the slack nicely!

A Lot of dry cleaners do alterations

Street sewing machines are everywhere in bkk.

Great answers everybody, thanks! Should've mentioned that I'll be staying in the area between MRTs Lumphini and Khlong Toei, any tips around that area? Only have two days in BKK this time before moving on, would be nice to have it done right away.
