BANGKOK: -- Following the announcement from the National Police Bureau that playing Pokémon Go is forbidden even on the footpath in ten major Bangkok roads, reporters went to find out what the public thought about the idea.

Most people agreed that limiting the game was a good idea but many said they were not aware that the police had announced about the ten roads where the game is forbidden, reported Sanook.

Reporters surveyed the public in Rama 1 and Henry Dunant Road in downtown Bangkok - two of the forbidden areas.

Most agreed that playing while driving was a no-no though some thought stopping the game on the footpath too was also a good idea as it was creating annoyance to other pedestrians.

One man who admitted he was a player said he felt it was OK to play on the footpath so long as you kept to the left and didn't annoy others.

One driver from Songkhla said he had never heard of the rule about the ten roads in Bangkok but agreed it was a sound idea.

Many felt that more information should be given to the public about where the game was banned though many accepted it was a good idea to prevent annoyance and opportunistic crime.

Regulation without enforcement is worth nothing.

This applies especially to bus & truck-drivers, I trust !  :whistling:

"No, No officer, I wasn't absconding from the scene of the crash, but there was a Pokemon-Go I had just missed collecting !"

Surely that goes without saying. Whoops! I forgot this is Thailand we are talking about......

There would be no need for regulation if common sense prevailed, unfortunately when it comes to his game, common sense is not evident in most countries.

No Pokemon, calling, texting in cars;  should be enforced.

What is the difference between playing Pokemon or Pacman, or any other game while walking ?

Pokeman Go will be the game that will propel Thailand from its

poor standing in driver safety in the world. Soon Thailand will be near the

top of the list as the most dangerous place in the world to drive.

This is more dangerous than almost every other distraction except

maybe texting on your Moo too, or mobile phone. Cell phone for the

younger of us commenters.

It will be nice if the government of all countries will make it not only

illegal to play Pokeman go and drive, but fine the H*ll out of those

that are caught doing it. Those who have not killed them before

getting caught

Pokemon is the current IN word so it's great to use for headlines and publicity which is SOP for the police here.

Common sense is not a given in this part of SE Asia, bordering on Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar

Ok, I get it. " IN"  word means there is no difference ! A game is a game. So either someone playing ANY game causes

problems for people walking on sidewalks and paths or not ? Texting , emailing, Twitter, etc. etc. all the same.

Either let all or stop all. There is no " IN " word.

' One man who admitted he was a player said he felt it was OK to play on the footpath so long as you kept to the left and didn't annoy others.' Given it'll be the same pseudo-zombies playing the game as walk around, eyes lasered to the screen, ignorant of the world facing, beside, or around them, they'll annoy, regardless. And since Thais tend to take up space to the left, the right, and in the centre, with no thought given to someone else's right of way - think BTS/MRT escalators - the odds of their sticking to a designated side while their eyes are on some cartoon play-character, are zero to none.

'Cell phone for the (younger) 'Americans' of us commenters.'

All this fuss about Pokeman. Thais (and people all over the globe) have been wondering around the streets with heads bowed, eyes fixed on their mobiles and not looking where are they going for years.

Strange it takes a game like this to wake people up to that fact.

too bad if your phone had some downloaded Pokemon screensaver,

and you weren't even actually playing...

Slap in the face for every person who plays this game. That should stop them staring at their screens

They should just shoot the ones who thought banning playing video games while driving a motor vehicle was not a good idea. They can just say they were put down for humanitarian reasons.  Because gawd knows that shooting them now will save some other family the horror of losing a loved one at the hands of such an idiot.

More regulations are not needed and won't accomplish anything.  All drivers are supposed to be alert and in control of their vehicles at al time.  Whether they are tuning the radio, inserting a different CD into the player, texting, playing a video game, or whatever is irrelevant.  They need to be prosecuted for their poor driving otherwise everything else is moot.  There is no need to specify ad infinitum, all the possible ways and devices one could be using to distract from driving
