Analyst says Thai economic growth can reach 3.4%

BANGKOK, 26 August 2016 (NNT) – A securities investment analyst has predicted that the Thai economy will expand by 3.2-3.4% this year. The analyst suggested investors diversity their investments and invest in stocks or assets with stable returns.

Managing Director of Thanachart Fund Management Company Limited Boonchai Kiattanavith said increasing domestic consumption, the government’s stimulus measures as well as improving exports were positive factors for this year’s Thai economic growth.

As for the Thai stock index until September, the analyst predicted that it would move in a positive direction around 1,480-1,600 points. The stock index would likely fluctuate at the end of the year following the predictions that the Fed would increase interest rates in December, said Mr. Boonchai.

The analyst further suggested that investors should invest in food, border trade and logistics stocks or assets with stable returns such as real estate or infrastructure funds.

I read another article saying the increase is primarily made up from increases in tourism and the money currently being spent on infrastructure projects.  2 items that benefit a small majority of the population.  It's not a broad based increase.

An unnamed securities investment analyst. That's not very useful. Especially if he works for the Thanachart Fund Management Company Limited.

What improving exports?

- Vice President of the Federation of Thai Industries Supharat Sirisuwannangkun just cited a drop in the industrial sentiment due  in part the Thai export sector.

- the National Economic and Social Development Board recentlypredicted that Thai exports would drop lower than earlier forecast

- BOT has noted that exports have contracted in 16 of the past 18 months

- the National Economic and Social Development Board predicted exports to shrink 1.9 per cent this year, compared to 1.7 per cent earlier speculated.

Please stop quoting real number about the economy. It will screw up their chance of being the "Economic Hub of Asia "
