Hi All,

My wife and I are going are separate ways, both have agreed to an uncontested divorce. Whilst the marriage took place in Europe many moons ago we did register the marriage at our (then) local Amphur about 5 years ago.

I have read conflicting reports on being able to get a divorce here, some say you can and some saying you can't.

The reports saying its possible suggest I go to that same Amphur and register the divorce, is that correct? Can you do this at any Amphur?

What exactly would I need and much does it cost etc.? I am told you need the marriage cert so I presume I will have to get a certified translation of this, do I need it also certified at Cheang Wattana?

Thank you for any help,

As the marriage was registered in Thailand the answer is yes you can divorce here in any amphur and what you need is the certificate they gave you when you registered it here at the amphur, also a translated copy of your passport (stamped by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok) and your wife's id card, and also you need two witnesses as well.

Hope this helps, info from my wife who deals with this sort of thing on a weekly basis.

By the way the easiest way to get your passport sorted is to get a translation shop in Bangkok to do it and then for a reasonable fee they will take it to the MFA and get it stamped and then post it to your address for you.

If you have children or assets, then use a lawyer that the mother does not know and don't introduce the lawyer to the mother until at the amphur. 5K for half a day, well spent money
