How is the teams performance germane to the thread topic?

Especially away from home, when the police officers at strike are not present anyway.

But again, was there any effect on the police present in the first week, when they did play at home?

Sports Athletes are hired to play ball.

They are not hired to be political spokespeople.

Kaps little escapade has brought unwanted attention, good and bad, to their team and disrupted the FOCUS which is to play ball.

A great rule to follow in the workplace--avoid conversations of religion and politics.

The world needs more of principled sports players (and people in general) like Kaepernick.

The guy has received some negative responses from some circles; but overall, freedom of expression has fortunately won in the US once again.

If this sort of thing happened in some countries around the world (we can pretty much guess which ones those are), that player would sadly be kicked from his/her team and his/her sporting career would be severely affected in a negative way.

I get one thing for sure. Someone is a bigot and it isn't me.

"Whiteness and America have always been kept synonymous, conjoined, fiercely paired. Attempts to problematize that marriage — to open it up and show whom it excludes — are reliably met with fear and resistance. New expressions of patriotism always make certain white people fear that a wedge is being driven between them and their America — whether by Muhammad Ali’s refusal to be inducted into the Army, or by Black Lives Matter, or by a backup quarterback for the 49ers. The fear is almost as old as the nation. Sometimes it feels as if the fear is the nation."

I guess your guns help you embrace your fear.

Meanwhile, citizens will continue to go about their daily lives without the need for expressing outrage if one of the minorities express their view.

Seems like Little Princess could not contain her fear so she presumes to instruct others in how to be a Patriot. Very white of her.

And your point is?

The point is that a lot a white people have a total lack of empathy when it comes to understanding the difficulties and challenges that face minority communities. In particular, the lasting effects of past discrimination. Remember, until 50 odds years ago discrimination in parts of the US was protected and enforced by law. Even after this, there continued to exist de-facto discrimination. Even in the 90's interracial marriage was only considered acceptable by about half of society. We could also look at the differences in penalties for crack cocaine vs. powdered, which disproportionately effected blacks, and was only changed in 2010. Most recently, the courts threw out a voter ID law in NC because it was very clearly designed to disenfranchise black voters (and not to protect the integrity of elections, as claimed). There are many of these types of issues that mean that it isn't just a simple case of "black people need to fix their communities and are themselves totally responsible for any problems". Even if we work under the assumption that all discrimination is eliminated today, the legacy still continues; despite being touted as the land of opportunity, the biggest predictor of ones economic and social status is that of one's parents.

Reason, logic and facts do not work on the Alt Right Pro 2A crowd. To them minorities and poor people are 'takers'. African Americans are thugs and the cause of their own poverty and violence. The Law Enforcement Officers sit at the right hand of God and can never be questioned or criticized. The petty rituals of their childhood must be maintained by all persons to constantly demonstrate their patriotism. Multiculturalism is bad. Respect for diversity is immoral and not consistent with God's law - or at least what they remember from Sunday School.

Absolutely no reasoning with these people at all. They used to be marginalized and too embarrassed to come out of the closet. Trump has changed this. He is the icon of the Alt Right. He is their Diety who washes away their sin of exclusivity, divisiveness and bigotry.

The national police union just came out in support of Trump.

Typical.

Cue conservatives who preach freedom, the Constitution, and who call themselves patriots getting upset about people exercising their freedoms. :saai:

This conservative just doesn't like some idiot player to get in the way of the game.

Yep...bringing their personal politics to the Olympic Stadium.

do you understand what the Olympics is supposed to represent?

A politically neutral arena to celebrate sport.

Ah, that's why countries have boycotted it over other country's politics.

The Olympics have been about politics for a long time now, and more recently also a lot about money and prestige.
