Terminal 2,the new one,is for international flights. When you go there there are 4 doors:1 to 2 on the right,2 to 4 on the left.My friend arrived at door 3.You cannot get inside, have to wait outside.Parking is the same as before and the entrance is at the ground floor.

So how do you actually walk from one terminal to the other if you have to change departure halls?

No.If you miss the right terminal there is a shuttle service from old terminal to the new one.Once you get inside the old one there is some staffs that will indicate you the way.

Judging from the arrivals/departures listed in the link above it would appear that:

Terminal 1 is the new International Terminal and
Terminal 3 [sic] is the old (now) Domestic Terminal

Terminal 2 is not listed as the terminal for any arrivals or departures at the link given.

This is correct and uncorrect:There are just two terminals:but is like they want split them in the following way:

1)Terminal 1:The old one

2)Terminal 2:The new one, flights from Middle East and that part of the world(Will be door 1-3)

3)Terminal 3:The new one, flights from Europe and that part of the world(Will be door 2-4)

If that's true, then the arrival/departure information being given at the following site is wrong.  I guess it wouldn't be the first time that a website had something wrong, but otherwise the flight information seems to be correct:

Let me clarify it looks like they have renumbered the domestic terminal to 3. That being said, the international terminal which is the new building that was built is ONE. Domestic which is the old building is now THREE. The buildings are side by side. There are only 2 physical buildings i.e. Terminals at Phuket airport. But please dont ask me As I just flew through the new terminal last week. This means I dont have any armchair information which everbody knows is correct.

I started this thread cause I was going to BKK.  I was searching for news.  No one knew.  ANd no website clarified.  On the way back BKK Air docked at the bridge in old Term 1 which is by the Bus Class Lounge.  As we deplaned ALL the CQI international people were told to wait to one side.  When I came in from AMsterdam a month ago it was out through Domestic and wander round to INternational Bags.  So why were the CIQs being held to one side?  To march them all to the new Term 1?

"So why were the CIQs being held to one side?  To march them all to the new Term 1?"

I would guess yes, to collect their luggage at the new international terminal.

People are asking questions here because they don't know how it works with the new system. There is conflicting information given here so more questions are asked. No reason to start flaming people.

Let's confuse things even more:)

What is the old Terminal 2 now called? That is the small terminal building built about 5 years ago which usually handled international flights to Singapore and Jetstar flights, located next to the new cargo terminal.

@2fishin2, to be pedantic, there are actually 5 separate terminal buildings:

- The old terminal building

- The newer terminal building mentioned above

- Terminal X for charter flights

- The new, international terminal building

- The newish cargo terminal building, (which you need to visit to eg collect bulky items sent by post and already cleared through Customs)

question and help.....

for a flight Phuket-Bangkok- Phnom Pehn ( fly thru)

where would one go to check in on air asia??

Thanks

My guess:

You would leave HKT out of Terminal 3 (the old main terminal) because that's a domestic flight to DMK.  If you acquired the flights via a single booking I would imagine you would be able to check baggage through to your ultimate destination PNH when you check-in at HKT.

I may be misunderstanding what you mean exactly by fly thru.  Do you change planes at DMK?  If so, then I believe the above is correct.  If you never de-board the plane in DMK (only allow others to board while you wait) I don't know how that is handled.

if u book 1 ticket on air asia as phuket- Phnom Penh you clear immigration in Phuket  ( still change  panes in Bangkok

if u book separate tickets u need clear in Bangkok  Hence the first is called fly thru

same goes when i fly Phuket-Bangkok- Mandalay i always book fly thru yet change planes in Bangkok but clear immigration in Phuket

Interesting.  Thanks for the explanation of fly thru.

Here's the way I'm looking at it.  HKT now has two terminals (domestic and international).  The plane can only be physically at one of the two terminals.

If check-in were at the international terminal then that would mean that anyone wanting only to travel HKT-->DMK would have to use the international terminal to board their entirely domestic flight, which seems wrong to me.

I'm still guessing that check-in is at the domestic terminal in HKT.  With a single booking you would still be able to check your luggage through to final destination, but I'm thinking that the plane will land at DMK as a domestic arrival and you will have to process through immigration control at DMK to board your onward flight to PNH.

I'm curious as to how it used to work in HKT, though.  In the past HKT had a domestic gate area and an international gate area.  So, you used to be able to go through the international gate area in HKT, land as an international arrival at DMK, and board your onward flight without ever processing through immigration control at DMK (because you had already done so at HKT)?  That, of course, makes sense to me, but doesn't it therefore mean that everyone on that flight from HKT-->DMK was an international traveler?  In other words, no one on that flight was simply going from HKT-->DMK and staying in Bangkok?  That's certainly possible, it just seems strange.  In other words, did they used to have flights to DMK from HKT that were exclusively for international travelers and other flights to DMK from HKT that were for domestic travelers only?  That seems to be what you're indicating.

As a practical matter can't you check-in online for an Air Asia flight 2 weeks in advance of the flight and shouldn't the boarding pass indicate which terminal (1 or 3) the flight leaves from.  I know it won't likely specify the gate, but wouldn't you know at that point which terminal (that is, whether it's an international or domestic flight)?

OK:  when i book  fly thru, as i often do, you check in at the air asia terminal and get 2 boarding passes ( one to Bangkok , the other bangkok- PP or....) you than clear immigration in Phuket and stay at the international departure area. Your than directed to the domestic flight HKT-DMK, ( no there is not a separate flight for transit passengers)  they give u a sticker which means when you get to  Bangkok you go to transit/transfer for international flight,  I am often the only person the staff meets to escort me to the international flight.

Coming back you clear a separate immigration in Bangkok  for transit passengers ( not the main immigration)  and go to the domestic departure area for the fight to phuket

Its nice  :-)

It's all clear as mud to me. But I expect that when I drop my wife off for the BKK flight it will be at the upper deck of the old/original terminal. I don't care what terminal number it is designated.  I don't want to muck about for an early 06.55 flight.

Old terminal is for domestic and new terminal is for international, this is easy enough.

only the baggage handling and customs clearance for (international) people from BKK is still not clear.

i will find out first hand when I arrive back in a few weeks.

LiK, I flew out to BKK this morning.

Same as it ever was. Drop off at the old terminal, check in and board at the old terminal. Once inside the old terminal, there didn't appear to be any kind of walkway or passage to the new terminal. It looks like anyone parking at the garage and flying out from the old terminal still has to walk outside through the construction and up the ramp (dodging any cars and taxis) to the departures floor if they don't catch the AOT shuttle van.

If you park at the garage you can alternatively walk on the outside through the construction and enter on the lower arrival level of the old terminal and then take the elevator or stairs up to the departure level.  You don't have to walk up the ramp, although you probably save a few minutes by doing so (or maybe not as the passenger screening at the arrival level entrance may not be as busy as that at the departure level entrance).

Flew in yesterday from doha. Can confirm 2fishin2 information. Old terminal only for domestic and new for international.

My impression was good. But no fast track at immigration and no lane for thais. Also it was  busy and hot. Looks like they save energie and menpower. Had to wait about 2o min.

Also they xray now all luggage. Was my first time in 25 years that they checked and xrayed my luggage. They were surprised when they saw my 20kg of food and whey but after some sentence baagwan they let me pass without problems.

So overall it was fine and also got to the car easy and dry now through this new bridge.

They've been x-raying luggage for the past three years. Nothing new there. I was stopped and ordered to open my luggage after being asked if I had a aerosol can in it. What they'd seen on the x-ray machine though was a can of shaving foam and had assumed it was a 'spray'.

X-raying and checking luggage at customs after landing in hkt is sure something new. I fly in 5-8 times every year and i was never stopped, checked or xrayed. Customs in hkt was always a desert zone.

Now they are x-raying all luggage at customs in hkt. So big difference for guys like me bringing in a lot of stuff.

This is normally correct but as there is no immigration at the domestic terminal you can't clear immigration unless you walk after your check in to the new international terminal to clear immigration.

As I don't have confirmation yet how this is handled now at HKT.

I was under the impression that the x-ray schlog referred to was meant for departures. But maybe I misread it.

If they're now going to start x-raying incoming luggage as well it's going to cause almighty queues for arriving passengers especially if you've just spent 13 hours in sardine class and just want to get to a hotel or home a.s.a.p. te get some proper shuteye.

Are they going to the same at Swampy?

^^^Back in May they x-rayed some of my stuff. Not luggage, but boxes of food items I brought back. The strange image of a bottle of Srirachi sauce caught their eye and I had to open up the box. Meanwhile about 100 people slipped by.

Got home a few days ago, came through the new terminal and wasn't x-rayed,  didn't see anyone else getting it done either.

Getting your luggage X-Rayed on arrival was and is always possible but hardly used.

In about 28 years it happened one time in Bangkok and one time in Phuket for me.

All other times just a walked through.
