Thanks Huuwi, I think they're going seafishing for a few days charter .....

When? Don't go out from Khao Lak this time of year.

they offer all around the andaman coast, and he did not mention when they do the trip.

if they get a weather window, fishing is great in the similans during september and october, and almost quiet as there are not to many dive boats and chinese snorkelers.

Illegal to be there this time of year. Weather forecasts are unreliable at best. It is a really bad idea to go there this time of year.

Hence my question: when?

I know the finger was coming. do the diving boats know that too?

and yes, i see the dive boats there and commercials too.

been there many time during september/october, you pick your days and it is ok.

if all weather forecasts are unreliable then why put them out?

Tell me one diving company that goes out there this time of year. I know of none.

Illegal and dangerous.

No, have not been there lately since it is closed.

Your excuses are feeble at best.

I`ve been out diving the similans as an instructor during low season quite a few times. And it was great diving! No other boats around. Lots of shark. Great visibility.
We brought the park rangers a few boxes of beer and other supplies and went diving at some of the sites that had been closed like Fantasea Reef.

But this was in 2005

2006 we were not allowed to go anymore and since than from all I heard no more dive boats out there.

Plenty of fishing boats though....

Yes, so have I. And in the past it was 'allowed' (the fine from the national park was the same as the official fees), but that has changed about 5-6 years ago. A pity because I loved it with no other divers, good visibility and it kept illegal (commercial) fishing boats away.

But these days AFAIK there are no diving boats there. Hence my question, which was answered with a nonsense reply. So apparently there are no diving boats there.

Amature fishing is nothing to do with diving and probably does not have the restrictions but TIT

National park closure applies to everyone.

Is the whole area a national park or just the area surrounding the islands, if its just the area surrounding the islands there would be other areas with good fishing that a charter fishing boat operator would know about if he/she is any good at their job and most are

If you are allowed to fish in the mangroves on the mainland coast there is good fishing there if you know where to go

I always wonder why the would allow fishing in national park waters anyway?

Not allowed.

So yes, you make a good point, the fishing boat could go out, and as long as they don't enter the national park waters they're perfectly legal.

In the majority of countries no commercial fishing is allowed in national parks

Amateur fishing is allowed in most countries with restrictions on the amount and size of popular species of fish you can catch also sometimes there are breeding periods when you are not allowed to catch certain types of fish

Thailand would be one of the few countries that allow commercial fishing in national parks which must change eventually and will

At the national marine parks, where this topic is about, officially no fishing is allowed at all.

It may be illegal to fish in marine parks, i hope your not saying people do not do it because they do

Its illegal for foreigners to work in occupations reserved for Thais as well but that does not top some people doing it

Laws are broken regularly here usually with the help of tea money
